Both sides in the repulsive artificial duality that is American national politics seem hell-bent on trying to outdo each other in their rush to declare that we’ve always been at war with Eastasia.
Harrison Bergeron is the key inspiration to Starlight, not Animal Farm. And Harrison Bergeron isn’t about any variant on communism either. Even Stalinism didn’t “downgrade” people to conform to what the average citizen was supposed to be.
@Mrmildock
Well the problem is that Twilight does possess incredible magical abilities, she has the problem of multi-specialization, meaning she spends more time trying to learn new spells and less on specializing on the ones she already has. Not to mention she’s not exactly the most competent mare in a fight, since her friends usually have to bail her out. As with the fight with Starlight, she kept closing her eyes and making grand gestures one can see a mile away.
@Tragiclady
Though the Dazzlings are my favorite villains/characters, I do agree. For a unicorn, her magic seemed just as powerful if not superior to twilight’s. (At least I thought so)
I’m certainly not gonna say that Starlight did nothing wrong but, || dividing her into 100 pieces with a high frequency blade while screaming about THE EDGE || should be saved in case she turns evil again or does something equally nasty :3
That was exactly what made Starlight Glimmer my favorite villain. Her being seemingly the only other unicorn in existence gifted at magic helped a lot too.
@Background Pony #85BA
My point is that even if the writers didn’t make her an exact Stalin analogue, the writers were clearly referencing elements of Stalinism, Maoism and other totalitarian ideologies.
@Background Pony #85BA
The obsession with Equality (while simultaneously being led by an all powerful leader) was clearly supposed to be a jab at Stalinism, Maoism and other such mutated forms of Marxism. Hell, her enterplay card contains a reference to Animal Farm.
@Crystal Neighybánya
Not even close.
One of the key policies of Stalinism was deportations of “enemies”, which is nothing like what happened in Our Town.
It’s just a generic cult, it has no traits specific to Stalinism

Meh, I hated Rainbow Dash when I first came into the fandom. I didn’t even start to like her and realize I was wrong till season 3. She’s certainly not my favorite, not even top ten, but I’ve come to appreciate her.
