I think there’s a difference between happening to have artifacts that are able to slow the speed of absorption, and knowing how they work/doing something better than they can. [Though this is Pencil’s world, he makes the rules for all introduced magical artifacts~]
 
And it seems the magic is coming from the ambient magic of the world around them or something. [If the Tree Chest Castle Map is supposed to be any indication of what’s happening to magic around their land~]

Is that why everything looks so gray and dreary? Because Anon is sucking all of the magic out of the place (except for Pinkie I guess, but since when does any rule apply to Pinkie?) ?

Okay so where does all that magic come from. Absorbing that much from the surroundings wouldn’t make him a “time bomb”. It would make him Death itself. FiM has shown that “magic” is basically life force, and ponies drained of it become faint and weak. Everyone near him would crumble to dust in seconds. The trees would wither, the earth would crack, and the sky would darken.
 
And why doesn’t Twilight fix it in two seconds? If that random old grandma can slow down the magic flow, then Twilight would know or quickly figure out how to stop or reverse it.

To add to gitton’s explanation, in this story Anon’s basically a balloon being filled up with water. At some point, he’s gonna go pop!

he is sucking up several times more magic than an alicorn has a second with no way to control that.

… Why will he explode? I know Buddhist monks have like a continent’s worth of chi stored up but I thought they kept that under strict control.

Once again, I love where this is going. :)

Even in the serious pages like this, I can’t take this comic seriously at all.
