Everything is a joke or pun or anything, and while he never seems to DO anything ,neither does discord as he just seems to just be around and not make a lot of sense, yet at the same time, carrying an air of “something more” and intimidation about him.

Sans is depressed, not lazy. He has a lot of jobs that he can simoltaneously be aty so he can pay for theit house. If you’ve noticed, living in Snowdin is expensive, even just renting a room a night. He’s also not omnipotent, he can only teleport and use his blasters/move objects. Sans makes jokes, not pranks. He also isn’t as energetic as Discord. Also, Discord does NOT like Celestia, he finds her to be a drag. (Comics)
 
Pinkie could be Sans, although with a deflated mane. (Or… Maybe Spike could be Sans?)

my reasoning for the sans-Discord thing is due to how the characters are portrayed. mainly that sans is lazy, he uses his abilities rather whimsically, mainly to avoid work. There is also that “distant tie” to Celestia (the flowers, how he addresses her when he’s freed the first time) which mirrors sans and toriel’s relationship. However, both also have a sharp, very dangerous side to them. Even in the most recent episode with Discord, while he’s making his second bob Ross joke after having pranked twilight to heck and back, he slips back into his more wicked tone of voice to show that twilight has emotions and that they can very easily be swayed like any mortal. The whole situation feels similar to how you get sans’ special key.

You know, Star Swirl would be a good WD Gaster. We’ve never seen him (in the show) and he’s mentioned a lot. Supposedly very intelligent… Hmmm….

you do have to remember that this isn’t going to be a perfect 1:1 character alignment, we can bend who’s who, and what exactly their role in the world is a bit, as long as it’s still recognizable as the original.

The problem is that Asgore is supposed to seem like a BIG, TERRIBLE EVIL creature out to kill you, but is in fact sweet, caring, and was husband and father.
 
The FATHER role here is important and must be male.
 
I thought up good king sombra because celestia was WET for him and due to Starlight Glimmer being HAX powerful, moreso that alicorn twilight, lead me to think that she had VERY SPECIAL parents.
 
Besides, other than Discord (who HAS to be Sans), or possible Starswirl, I don’t see any other males who’d be both Mature or could pull off a fatherly role…

I think maybe the reverse, (E.g. Celestia=Toriel, Luna=Asgore) Tia is by far the more motherly figure of the two, and would therefore be better suited for Toriel, while Luna, despite not having made any real personal connections with the audience/player, does give across a very strong empathetic one, much like Asgore.

Why would we use a guy from the comics when we’re talking about show canon characters? If anything, Sombra should be WD Gaster because he’s DEAD.
 
I still stand by Celestia being Asgore and Luna being Toriel, or a reverse of that.
