Some ask for a partial payment up front or halfway through (especially if they have a hefty price tag for their work) and some (like me) don't ask for money until the job's done so that they bear no commitment or responsibility for getting the work done. If I try to draw it and its shit or annoying I can just be like "nah man, turns out I can't do that, sorry." and be done with it. (That and I ask for absolute chump change for my work, so even if someone welches out on me I'm only out around $5.)
