That’s still a lot better than my mom, who says that a certain group of people, or people from a certain country* are responsible for every war and misfortune humankind has ever had. Her “reliable sources” are crazy people on the internet. I have to hear about this every time she talks D:

Twilight still didn’t have to act super defensive when Papyra listed a retelling of events that differed from what she had learned :o

Aaand there goes my respect for Papyra, at least from a historian’s perspective.  
She claims her sources are neutral and objectively true, but calls Twilight’s interpretation biased, despite the fact that Twilight at least mentions where she got her knowledge from.  
I don’t see such evidence from Papyra’s interpretation. For all we know, she pulled that backstory out of her butt and when Twilight objected, “You’re blind to the truth! Rah rah rah!”  
While Papyra’s interpretation makes more sense, dare I say in a scientific or logical manner, I have to stick with Twilight on this one. She at least backs her interpretation with evidence, even if it is biased. It’s better than, “I’m objectively right and Celestia’s pulled the wool over your eyes!”

No, but that’s one half of the equation defining the extremely nebulous and ambiguous term “deity/god”.
 
What separates someone like Superman from someone like Zeus? Why is one a deity while the other is not?
 
—Worship.
 
That’s the only true difference. Zeus was worshiped as a divine supernatural entity. Superman was not.
 
By this logic, Celestia and Luna are not goddesses, because they are not worshiped as deities in the show. Now, ponies do greatly respect and admire Celestia (and Luna as well: fearful awe is still a form of admiration and respect—it’s just a negative one); but ponies don’t religiously worship them as divine supernatural entities. They’re worshiped like beloved leaders and/or celebrities are, not deities.

Something tells me this argument is going to end with Papyra uttering the words, “She’s standing behind me, isn’t she?”

I gotcha. I’ve given some constructive criticism on his drawings, and he took all that pretty well. I’ll admit, I don’t do Warhammer 40K, TVTropes just kinda dragged me into it and I’ve been a “spectator” ever since, so the whole model-painting thing is kinda foriegn to me.

And she dismisses Twilight’s points by attacking first Celestia’s person, then Twilight’s herself. Since it’s been established Papyra believes herself destined to become a princess in her own right, I’m thinking this is a manifestation of her arrogance rather than logic.

I also find it funny how many people started defending Celestia and Twilight like their lives depended on it. Or perhaps they dislike the filly and feel the need to be contrary.
 
I’m not saying we should overthrow the alicorns (ViperBits is saying that, get him!) but hearing from a few different sources on history couldn’t hurt right?
