Speak for yourself, I for one don’t think the songs actually got good until S2 and it wasn’t until 4 did they really start to shine. Heck that “On My Own” song was one of the show’s best in my opinion.

Also, as is par for the course with most Disney movies, it’s got a decent balance of song and regular dialogue.

FiM’s musical quality dropped sharply over time. I haven’t seen if it’s picked back up in season 6 but I don’t have much faith.

She’s get her own episodes and even though she’s already part of the Main Six , they like to pretend she’s not so that by the time Starlight defeats the villain of the Season 6 final they can official “promote” her.

MLP is no exception.  
I’ll watch the episode, but I don’t like having to sit through songs for the entire thing just to get the plot.

Well, it makes sense to me. She may be their friend but she’s far closer to Twilight then any of the others and she’s not really part of their clique. The others were their for Rainbow from the very beginning and have seen her overcome all her obstacles. They were much more invested in Rainbows promotion to wonderbolt status then Starlight.
 
Also, maybe Starlight had things of her own to do. Probably hanging out with her own friends, like Trixie.

Now that is a very good theory something like an assisted freedom, she can only do as much as Twilight seem fit for her, however then again being Friendship the main subject of class being there for her dear Rainbow friend still seems like a valid thing for her to do xD  
I just really like her so the more the better ^^

Note how Starlight was never seen ouside of the Castle alone (without the mane6), unless she had a task to complete (like going to a friendship lesson trip, or making a new friend).  
So I reckon she musta stayed in the castle doing chores and reading books about alternative implementations of a harmonious society, Friendship for Dummies and ‘how to tell if an old friend still has a crush on you’.
