Yeah, I watch the show because I really enjoy the characters, and think the design and animation are generally good and occasionally exceptional. The writing usually varies between “decent” and “darn good for a kid’s show”, but there are some episodes that rise above that to excellence.

I thought this was a great scene! It made me smile. I also rather like the composition.

I watch the show since season 1. The episodes have ups and downs (and this one was a down compared to last week) but at the same time you have to be lenient with some of them. This was a classic episode done MLP style, it happend. I find pedantic the people who take the show so seriously they have to really bash the “kids” episodes like they’re the core audience.
 
 
It’s like the comics, a lot of them aren’t bad, just… not exceptionnal and kid friendly. And that’s okay. It’s sad when people bash them anyway because “muh Anderson muh whitley” which makes criticism of actual bad stories that hurts characters (like the good the bad and the ponies) shallow by default.
 
 
And Dash is pretty fine this season, I loved her last week and this week she wasn’t any worse than the others.

I’m just gotta post this every time we get to this level of drama over simple syay like this:

Anyways, people repeatedly excused MLP’s faults as it being a kid’s show, and I don’t know about you, but I’d say kids have much lower expectations and standards than adults with real life experience and refined tastes do. FFS, most kids are into gross stuff just for no reason other than blatantly stupid comedy… So that’s what I meant by people not enjoying it if they have high standards. And yes, I am aware of the whole “growing up means no longer giving a buck about being childish” thing, I just don’t necessarily find it true when it comes to sources of entertainment and learning. If this quote was true, a grown adult playing all day in a sandbox would be cool, which is obviously not the case because that’s just stupid.
 
Anyway, back on the topic. A person who saw the best anime titles and the best cartoon titles just won’t be able to excuse all the shortcomings of MLP and instead will either dislike it or never watch it in the first place. After all, why waste time on a shallow and childish show when you can find much better things to watch? Unless of course they were in for a kid’s cartoon, which is an ok thing with me but not really something personally I am after. I am stuck mostly because I love equines and there are no other shows about equines out there. Well, that and I am in love with RD, at least the RD from the earlier seasons. There was an awesome cartoon abut equines in my childhood and it was much better IMO, but you can re-watch something only so many times.

Lets be real. Enjoyable entertainment does not mean it should be “high standards”. Also you sounded like Quibblepants at this point __

People keep saying there’s drama, but really, it looks like mostly Viper and a couple of BPs having a problem with Derpy against everybody else that disagrees with his statement and finds him not even watching the show and still giving his two cents rather dubious.

And statements like this isn’t really helping your case if you’re going to imply that people that watch this show have low standards. And if that’s not what you meant, then you really need to word your opinions better.

More telling, though, is Rarity’s comment after the flashback, where she claims to have learned to ‘know your audience’. That pretty much implies that the real reason for her loss was simply that whatever the judge was looking for wasn’t what Rarity’s cart provided - such as technical creativity rather than aesthetic creativity.

Except that Derpy is pretty much almost always used exactly like the butt of the joke. The jokes around her are all stereotypical and revolve either on her behavioral quirks, of muffins. How fun and interesting. I think I even saw a parody a few years back which made an excellent job of showing how exactly people view Derpy and who she is. Comment wars there also suggested why people like her that much (and the reason isn’t pretty), but I would rather not start this discussion over here…

The award was for creativity. Rarity made a pretty standard cart and made it look nice.
 
Derpy made a 3 wheeler with extended front wheels dipping only to hold the seat and it isn’t the kind of 3 wheel design that falls over when you take a corner either. Not sure how it is supposed to make a turn without some kind of connection with the steering wheel though.
 
For a pony that probably didn’t know what she was doing I’d say she did damn good.

No where was it ever indicated that derpy won because of her disability, or even that her disability helped her, assuming that she even is disabled in the first place and not just cartoonishly clumsy.

How are the characters stereotypes? I’ve seen a lot of episodes recently where they act completely against those stereotypes. And when has the show ever been deep?
