You have to learn the rules before you can break them, and you must have a good reason for breaking them. If you don’t, they look sloppy. I recommend you Read this and do some research into cartoon drawing, because doing whatever you want with no regard for basic principles rarely leads to good results.

And your point is? Being able to ignore “basic construction and anatomy” is a great boon in making all the faces that this show uses. I never claimed that you can’t make crazy faces without ignoring anatomy, but that them being free to ignore it gives them many more options.
 
A face having basic contruction and anatomy is not something always required in a cartoon, nor is it always even a good thing.

No. There’s a difference between highly distorted facial expressions and facial expressions which ignore basic construction and anatomy.

is a highly distorted facial expression, but, with the exception of the arms and hands, it follows basic anatomy and construction.

Hint: they weren’t, because “extreme face” scenes benefit from being more free, and are quite enjoyed by a large part of the fandom.

Her jaw and chin aren’t moving to accommodate her mouth, parts her mouth fall off her face, and her eyes don’t properly wrap around her head. Some of the storyboard artists don’t know how to properly construct facial expressions.

She’s reaching Spongebob levels of exaggerated expressions. She’s even yellow like him!

“What do you mean you left Angel back in Ponyville!? I swear to Celestia, Rainbow, if anything happens to him I’m going to…[inaudible due to freight train passing them]… until the handle bar breaks off and you have to consult a unicorn!”

Fluttershy is my least favourite character, but this is one of the best freakin moments in the entire show.
