Timing is coincidence. Story was written almost a year ago. Therefore not possibly relevant to any current politics of the last several months.

Frankly, this is what I kinda fear about the story too. The timing of the story during an election year, raises a few eyebrows too, so I fear there will be strawmanning, or thinly veiled political commentary…  
(Like when Ken Penders was trying to sneak some of his views in Sonic…)

Knowing how to operate the business does not mean you can run a government.

Yeah, it is pretty far-fetched to assume they’d paint him as the villain.
 

The comic has not yet had him do anything wrong, nor has it called him out for doing anything wrong.
 
Running for mayor isn’t evil, and nothing here suggests we should think of it that way.
 
But that won’t stop conclusions from being jumped to, nor will it stop the preemptive complaining.

Ugh, do they really need to make Flithy Rich a two dimensional rich stereotype?

Which is completely out of character anyway.

Even though Filthy is perfectly justified and well within his rights to run for Mayor I’m sure the comic will make him out to be the villain just because he’s rich and that’s bad.
