As if she only did that so she could rule alone. It’s not as if right from the beginning it was known she only did so reluctantly to stop her sister from a course of action that, until later seasons showed differently, logically would’ve meant the end of life on the entire planet. And it’s not as if we saw this moment, with her begging Luna to stop, and only resorted to the banishing when she refused after Luna tried to kill her. And then had tears in her eyes while fighting her. Nor did we see their tearful reunion in which Celestia told her how much she’d missed her.
 
Oh wait, we did.

I’m not saying I agree completely but I do agree that Starlight being deeply flawed makes her way more interesting to watch. Characters that are too perfect are boring.
 
I suspect when Starlight makes a grand gesture to show she can change that will be more meaningful as a result

This is perhaps one of the smartest posts I’ve seen in a long time. I’m not saying I’m against Starlight, I’m saying that even “reformed”, she’s still the same sociopath she has been in S5.
 
She has little to no empathy towards others and always uses her magic to solve everything, even if it’s forcing it. To her, the end results are all that matter and she takes them extremely seriously, others be damned.
 
I still think it’s no suprise she was cast in the role of Snowfall Frost in Hearth’s Warming Tale. Both the fictional and real versions are practically mirror images of the other. Especially on the fact that what they believed was correct would end up bringing ultimate destruction (The fictional one brought about Endless Winter and the Windigos’ return; the other so many different bad futures ending in the “Ashlands” Wasteland).
 
What would be most interesting is speculation on the season finale. We already know she’s going to bring together a group to fight a foe, but the question is how they will fare. I wouldn’t be surprised if at first they fail miserably as Starlight will be a terrible leader with little to nonexistent skills in teamwork and true friendship, only to shape up in the second part. In fact, I look forward to it and it will tell us just how good the writers can be.
 
In a way, Starlight is a welcome addition to this season: a character who is deep downa bad hero but will hopefully, learn to be a slightly good one.

She wants to impress Twilight as much as possible to the point it actually causes real harm. Twilight is guilty of this behaviour herself with her irrational desire neigh NEED to please Celestia. So you can apply a lot of the same criticisms to Twilight the only difference is Twilight has never been evil… She could quite easily have been if events turned out a different way though.

You’re giving the show way too much credit especially after that last line.

Well..um….now that I think about it, yeah, that really does sum up the clear difference between the two pretty well, thanks to the latest episode.

Yes, but everyone thought that she changed for good. She’s still as rotten as she was. She just redirected her hatred after getting a chance from Twilight and meeting with Sunburst again. But it’s still there, and in this episode it all emerged spectacularly.

Honestly, this makes me favor Starlight Glimmer as a character even more. She is a clear outlier when it comes to the series and I can respect that.

I’m actually kind of sad the comparison between them is unfavorable as it is inescapable.

Didn’t we already know this in Season 5? And earlier this season with No Second Prances? :3
 
Its why I relate to this character so strongly.
