I like AJ’s episodes. Besides, they said the same thing about Spike episodes and when they finally made a good one (Gauntlet of Fire) it was AMAZING :D

I can’t help but think that’s really all it is. If she were really this inept, then Equestria would not have survived those 1,000 years as well as it did.
 
The Roman Empire lasted half that long, and Equestria’s still going strong. The Ancient Egyptian Empire barely made half Equestria’s age - maybe less considering Equestria’s been around some unspecified time longer than 1,000 years.
 
The Greeks and Babylonians were considerably shorter lived than the Romans.
 
So, in terms of civilizations, Celestia’s basically leading ponies through an unending golden age compared to anything humans have ever done, and we don’t have hydras and dragons and powerful ancient chaos gods to worry about.
 
 
Edit: I guess the Holy Roman Empire lasted about 1,000 years, actually. I’m impressed. If Equestria went a few decades before the NMM deal, though (and it probably did) then it’s still lasted longer.

We had like somewhere from half to a quarter of the episode that was just Celestia talking and telling a story.
 
Meanlucario said stuff that made it sound like you didn’t watch the episode… you did watch Celestial Advice and A Royal Problem, right?
 
’Cause not watching them because of what others say would be a lot like not giving Zecora a chance because of the rumors around her.

Not true. Before Twi there was Discord, Sombra, and Nightmare Moon, all of whom Celestia wasn’t able to handle without using the Elements of Harmony and none without severe consequences (Discord left behind the Plunderseeds which scored a near victory years later, Sombra weaponized their “turned him to shadow curse” and took an entire kingdom with thousands of innocents with him, and Nightmare Moon cost her her own sister).
 
Also there was Sunset Shimmer before Twilight, which makes me think she’s always had an apprentice, as well as her “anti-monster squad” that, for some insane reason, was completely disbanded when they failed once (the bugbear escaped).

Only defending and spreading friendship, technically Twilight is the Equestrian UN, but with so much better results, while Celestia is only burocracy and real-life politics.

Well, to be fair, there is a difference between handling the political/governing/negotiating side of leadership, and the militaristic/combat side of things~

She’s really not though. Like she rarely acts, every time she does act she fails, and in the alternate futures she literally could not once keep Equestria together without Twilight.
 
I totally know it’s a meta thing like they need to keep the focus on Twily, and I love her to bits, and by god she’s trying, but when push comes to shove she’s just not that good at what she does. It’s like “Oh you can raise the sun? Cool, you’re now also in charge of defending, controlling, managing, and running this entire country. Have fun” :(

Her having fears and episodes, especially with those she’s close to isn’t what I’m talking about. It’s more of her not being as good a leader as she’s portrayed to be. Her being flawed and a history isn’t a bad thing, though most of them should be covered by experience, and why her and Luna having issues isn’t that strange, considering that they have been away from each other for too long, and hasn’t had practice dealing with family as much as most other ponies.

Well… His interpretation was what we got in the S7 Premiere for the most part, so I don’t believe it’s that out of character.

Seeing as how she was able to rule solo for 1,00 years, and some time before that, I can’t help but find your interpretation to have a few holes in it.

I suppose Celestia has her happy and sad backstory moments. But writers want only show “The rulling happy side”.

Maybe I see her differently than most (and god only knows who’s actually right) but I just don’t see her as a powerful infallible mentor. I see her as a not very powerful and somewhat inept leader who’s really trying her absolute best to keep things together but is prone to mistakes, just can’t do it, and took Twi on as a protege to help pick up the slack.

It could be somewhat sad throughout to make the end heartwarming scene all the more rewarding. When a character has to work for something it makes that end result so much more valid, y’know? :D

That would be cool. Expanding on it and letting us see more of her worry and sadness.

A self discovery journal is fine, but I want see a happy Celestia at most of time, like what are princess hobbies or if she has sincere friends, or only subjects.
