people disliking sven is just as “reasonable” as people disliking flash sentry. Which is to say there doesn’t have to be a reason to it. People have characters they like and characters they dislike.

I guess because Svengallop is a rather grounded character y’know? He only cares about profits, personal convenience, investing his influence and businessmaking skills. He only used Rara for leverage and saw her as a tool, and he does do it behind her back which makes it a lot more believable. He feels real enough, which might be why people have issues shipping him with others. He might not drain your love or something like Chrysalis can do, but he would manipulate you for his own gain and never reveal that fact.
 
As for if he can change, well sadly I doubt he’d show up in the show again as a focus character.

I haven’t seen people vocally dislike shipping pairs that have Discord or Tirek or Sombra or Chrysalis in them, yet Svengallop seems to be where people draw the line.
 
Personally, I’d feel safer around Sven. He wouldn’t be able to ruin my day with magic, or drain all of my magic/love.
 
Plus, as long as someone is alive, there is always the chance that their personality could change for the better. I know mine has drifted back and forth a few times.
