The artist told me he doesn’t intend to make them anything other than friends.  
Though ‘Sunburst’ isn’t any better.

…REALLY hope this isn’t setting up for a Sparlight ship in this blog… especially considering that earlier one heavily hinting that Sunburst was trying to impress Starlight and was asking for Rarity’s help which didn’t actually go anywhere (seriously, still disappointed with that)…
