Times are changing and this quote is obsolete in the age of Internet and adult in name only hijacking show from the main target audience.Just look at Japan where the majority of the industry cater to otakus and hikkikomori.This is not a path the West want to take.Furthermore,adult fans are dead last in the list of Hasbro priorities.They made it very clear in their powerpoint presentation.This is why now we have glaring absurdities like grown mens complainig that a show about pastel ponies is too colorful or optimist.For self-flagellating nihilism,tune to Bojack Horseman instead,it also have less colorful horses as i recall

Aside from being a minor subtle subplot for a few episodes, their Rainbow Power forms were only featured for a few brief minutes, (including their cameo in a later dream sequence) so even they weren’t around much. (Made it a bit ironic there was a li’l drama over it. (That insane Kwark guy, I recall was fear-mongering on DA that their “Rainbow power” forms would be “permanent.” I predicted they were temporary like their “Crystalized” forms.)
 
And yeah, there was no tie-ins to the “cutie mark magic” toyline aside from some brief emphasis on cutie marks in Season 5.  
They didn’t really have a toy “gimmick” in S6 either.

I’m just saying DHX has just as much power over the show as Hasbro does in some ways, and Hasbro isn’t the only one to blame for things some fans dislike in the show.  
Honestly the only toys I can recall recently that had a impact was Twilight’s new castle, (I don’t feel that some things like even feel Flurry has impacted the show that much) though honestly it hasn’t had that much impact on the show, aside from the mission-sending map. (Which admittedly is kinda cool, and allows the characters new places to explore. So toy tie-ins aren’t always bad.)
 
Also, if the toylines truly were the main thing influencing all the directions of the show, then they would’ve had Princess Skyla instead of Flurry Heart.

He’s not calling them Satan. He’s only saying that Hasbro is a toy-marketing company first, and thus whatever toy comes out, DHX is ordered by Hasbro to make a story revolving around it. This can ultimately result in continuity DHX was currently working on to be completely disjointed.

There’s a difference between “expecting a kid’s show to be good” and “expecting a kid’s show to be something it’s not.”

I don’t know, from what I hear Hasbro actually gives them quite a bit of freedom with the series, (more then say Mattel gives Barbie, or Nintendo would the Mario cartoons. I hear they’re very picky about those.) And the fact the show can be “‘90s Nicktoon” level of edgyness at times proves they give the show makers some freedom.
 
Not to mention surprisingly some things in the show were actually Hasbro’s idea, not DHX’s, like the “Slice of Life” episode focusing on the popular bit characters for example was original Hasbro’s idea, and they really let Larson go crazy with the ep’. (Heck, some felt he had “too much freedom” in the ep’.) That episode didn’t feel like something you’d expect from them.
 
Not to mention the famed “Twilight VS Tirek” battle was like a slightly-lighter DBZ fight. The only mandate Hasbro put on it was they couldn’t show Twilight punch Tirek in the face, so it focused on magical destructive beams & explosions. (Which how much li’l girls like superhero movies & anime now, you can’t say that would bother kids, but it is surprisingly edgy & action packed for a MLP show.)
 
So while Hasbro has some issues, you can’t call them “Lucifer,” or blame them alone for everything wrong with the show, OR claim they give DHX no freedom at all with the franchise. Most of the stuff in the show is actually DHX’s doing, even some new characters were actually invented by DHX, not Hasbro.

…but testosterone filled choreography reminiscant of dbz or aang vs ozai? Sure some little girls will like it, but it’s hardly the target audience they were going for, and Big Jimbo knows it. If I had a penny for every time a DHX writer has had to say something defensive to avoid Hasbro or soccer mom scrutiny, I could easily go into early retirement. Thats not an insult, good for Jim, wrestling creative control over Hasbro takes constant determination, cause Hasbro are a bunch of toy obsessed freaks who couldn’t care less about good writing in a show.
