So, as someone who does really like Starlight, I can agree with certain issues with her. Her backstory was very underwhelming compared to her intentions, and her reformation was rushed at best. Then again, this is a TV-7 rated show, so I don’t know what any of us were expecting.

Aside from that though, I genuinely like everything else about Starlight. Her appearance in season 5 was really fun to me, being not only our first reoccurring main villain, but one who isn’t godly powerful- and had a different type of villainy. She wasn’t evil, just psychotic. And though I can agree that she wasn’t reformed all that well initially, I grew to really like her as a protagonist as well. She’s flawed, has a more cynical but realistic view compared to the mane six, her more dry humor is appealing to me, and she’s honestly the most complex character in the show currently, or at least I think so. To me, Starlight is just an overall breath of fresh air for the show.

So, I get both sides, and I get why she was so polarizing for criticism. But what I don’t get is why she’s still so controversial within the fandom. Granted, less so than it used to be, but goddamn, Starlight drama got old faster than Twilicorn drama did. Even Flurry Heart drama didn’t last this long.

Like damn, do people just watch this show to complain now? The argument that makes me laugh the hardest is when people say the writers are “trying to make us like Starlight”. Yeah, no shit, that’s what writers are supposed to do, lol. You don’t have to like the character, but obviously a lot of people do if Starlight’s being pushed as hard as she is. Is it really that hard to just accept or move on from?

Just my two cents on Starlight drama. Can’t wait for the next big, controversial piece of MLP drama to finally succeed Starlight. We can only wait for what the future holds, and knowing this fandom, it still has a lot in store…

Everyone’s debating in the comments, and I’m just here admiring how Starlight looks with those glasses on.
