I forget, did Twi provide a reason for why one of the New!Changelings would want to do this? Or is the assumption that this ’ling is simply kind of a jerk?
@toonbat
It’s an evil so evil that there’s no room for impurities and which therefore doesn’t require filtering. Thus you also get the full range of evil rather than just a filtered-out component evil.
Gonna bring up an old debate, but I always thought the ‘pure unfiltered evil’ tag just sounded wrong. Filtering is a process of removing impurities, therefore leaving what comes out more pure. So it’s more sensible to me to have the tag read ‘pure filtered evil’.
She’s taking the swatting hacker prank a li’l too literally. (Though, personally I think those pranks are overkill. Also, falsely reporting people is a crime.)
Ghost of TCR: Are you idiots swatting me?! Gawdammit leave me alone!
(Don’t worry he wasn’t really swatted, the cops just showed up, because neighbors were worried about Ghost’s loud screaming next door unaware he was doing a radio show. Ghost sure knows how to properly react in any situation, doesn’t he?)
@monolyth
Let’s say that a changeling started a Twitch streaming gig. Starlight contacts the royal guard. Says there’s some illegal foal slave trafficking going on in a hive-like house.
@Background Pony #E982
Replace ‘fear’ with ‘no other option’ and my argument still stands. Whether fear or because they had no other known way, when a better option came up, their loyalty to her came into serious question because they didn’t stick with her for the sake of her, they were there because of the situation, meaning any time another potential option arose, they were going to heavily consider it.
I agree with @Prof.NightJack, if the show didn’t have time restraints and ratings to contend with, we probably would have gotten a split in the numbers. At this point it’ll be something we find out in her return likely later this season that she still had followers. After all what about all those infiltrators in the various cities? They weren’t there to witness the transformation, they may still be loyal.
@Background Pony #E982
The fact that Thorax transformed was evidence enough for them to at least try it. The worst that would happen is failing and thus proving Starlight was mistaken and Chrysalis was right that they had no other way to live. That they did transform proved Starlight was right. Attempting to transform was certainly not a betrayal either, unless you consider trying to find another way to live a betrayal.
@Background Pony #11E2 @Background Pony #E982
Really, both sides of this have reasons they make sense.
It really should of been a split in the changeling with some changing and some not and leaving with Chrysalis.
One said sick of the old way and wanting to be like Thorax and the other thinking it made no sense and stayed how they where.
There was no guarantee Starlight was telling the truth. If they betrayed the queen and they were wrong. The queen abandons them and the hive collapses without a leader to lead them where to feed. Or Celestia banishes them for invading on more than one occasion and they again die. That “chance” was far too slim to take, they should’ve had it more enticing, but you agree it was at least rushed.
“Bitch” or not. She raised them and never (well at least no proof) harmed a loyal subject at any point.
@Background Pony #E982
‘It’s that ALL of them with the sole exception of Chrysalis did a complete face heel turn and betrayed their queen and mother’
They turned face and heel on a bitch who’s never shown a single shred of care for her ‘children’ outside using them as tools to conquer the world. What’s their reason to stay loyal to her? Taking the chance to stop starving, or at the very least have a new leader who’s definitely not as terrifying would be enough reason for me.
The turn around WAS rushed, but it’s not like Chrysalis had a verified fan club let’s be real. We don’t need Thorax to have proven anything or Starlight’s speech for the changelings to have some reason to want to abandon ship on Chrysalis. Rulers who rule through fear do just that.
@Silent Wing
My issue isn’t that some became good. It’s that ALL of them with the sole exception of Chrysalis did a complete face heel turn and betrayed their queen and mother.
(And before I get the “well Starlight showed them how they could live without hunger and Thorax proved it with his transformation”.)
1.) Starlight was either going to be harvested or killed. She’d say anything to avoid that.
2.) Thorax proved nothing. Maybe if he was a different creature his transformation would mean something, but when he AND EVERY other changeling could transform into something different, that transformation is a moot point.)
But you’re right, they shouldn’t all be inherently evil. Thorax was a breath of fresh air and I liked the concept that not ALL changelings were evil.
Wait a second, I thought changedlings can’t do unicorn magic except for altering their body form and hypnotizing ponies into submission!!! Your crazy fantasies are inaccurate in the physiology of creatures, Twiggles!!
@Silent Wing
Eh, I’m willing to go easy on people who don’t like the new designs. Not because of the ‘they’re supposed to be bad’ argument, but because it seems we’re not gonna see the old designs again in the show, except for Chrysalis, which sucks if you love the old design. With any luck she’ll breed a new colony, and then we’ll have both designs. I hope so, because I do love the new ones. More than the old ones. Blasphemy, but there you go.
