Spike loving and living with Rarity, outliving her, Ember coming in to try and help Spike back on his feet and even “fill the hole” but has to deal with the fact that he keeps shouting out Rarity’s name in bed?
 
It’s pre-emptively ruined by the writer giving spike wings due to them wanting a continuation of the adventures of spyro and cynder.

She’s still the second choice, that’s what I’m saying. Even if Rarity is long gone, she has to deal with the fact that “she’ll never be Rarity” and Spike will still pine for her.

Everyone’s partner has a few quirks. Sometimes it’s a hopeless crush on someone who will never love them back.

You can love more than one person and in couple of centuries if Spike is still hung up over her than he is not worth it. Also you don’t know what his thoughts are the plushy could have just become something he has now.

But can she outlast the fact that she is the secondary choice? That given a moment’s notice, he’d go with the unicorn instead of her? That even after sharing a bed with her, his thoughts are about the unicorn?
