Excuse me if I’m misunderstanding, but isn’t teaching based upon the entire notion of relaying to others the knowledge we have gained from past experiences? Even if she doesn’t have much hard knowledge to share, I can’t see why Starlight shouldn’t be allowed to at least give Sunset some advice; Sunset, for all the progress she had made, still isn’t without flaws.
You also appear to be grossly distorting what Starlight actually said. This is the actual line:
“The only piece of advice I can give is to just trust everything will turn out alright in the end. If you think too much about what bad stuff might happen, you won’t be able to notice all those cool and different things around you.”
As we can see, she’s clearly not advising Sunset to turn a blind eye to all her apprehensions and throw away all responsibility when a crisis occurs; rather, she’s simply suggesting to Sunset that she shouldn’t let her worries get the better of her and take away from her enjoyment in life. There’s a fine line between showing concern and being paranoid, you know.
Actually, I feel like there has to be context missing here. What is the “cool and different” thing Starlight was refering to when saying that if Sunset worried too much she might miss out.

No. IMO Starlight has no right to teach friendship because she was speaking only from HER experiences. Sunset was in the right to worry about the rouge magic but Starlight pretty much says “Who cares? Just have fun and don’t take any responsibility for any crisis that you could have prevented happens because you were being irresponsible”. If anything Starlight should have agreed that magic used irresponsibly is dangerous and actually tried to help (oh wait I forgot who I was talking about).
Look, believe what you want, but that is my opinion of this situation.
@gingerninja666 facepalm You do know that Twilight was feeling incredible pressure because Celestia made it seem that she was the messiah and fixer of problems, right? And we all know how far Twilight is willing to go just to please her (former) mentor. How far? Well:
She was willing to put the entire Crystal Empire in danger just so she could fulfill the requirements of a test. And she was also perfectly fine with keeping her friends out of the loop when Discord betrayed Equestria for Tirek just because Celestia told her to.
Yeah, Twilight NEEDED that lesson taught to her. And Sunset, believe it or not, was the perfect candidate because… gasp She was in Twilight’s position once (student part, not princess part). So she knows how badly a relationship like that can damage a person.
do you remember how that film had the PRINCESS OF FRIENSHIP not knowing anything and needing to be given the winning advice by Sunset, who’d just reformed?

If anything it’s Sunset who should be giving lessons. Starlight might be teach Sunset something regarding magic. But if that’s the case why not have Twilight teach Sunset instead?
I’m not sure what exactly Starlight can teach Sunset regarding friendship that she doesn’t already know. If anything it’d be a mutual sharing of experiences.

Look I know its unpopular to not love Mary Sue Shimmer but she’s so overrated IMO at least with Starlight they gave a dann and showed something in the the 44 minutes they had, unlike the 90 they had in EQG that had a lot if filler in it that could have been cut to explain something.
