Well, we know ponies paint their hooves to match their coats (Most of them. Apparently it’s a fashion among some stallions to leave their fetlocks unshorn and paint their hooves to match their mane instead.) So I expect ponies also paint their horseshoes to match their chosen hoof-color.

Aren’t horseshoes nailed or glued to hooves?
Same reason we wear human shoes.
