Dude, I Loved the first movie as a kid. I’ve got great memories wrapped up in it.
But I watched it as an adult for the first time just last year and, well…It’s the girliest piece of crap I’ve ever seen in my life.

And it’s not even the good kind of girly. It’s the condescending type of girl where the producers must think girls = toddlers. I swear it got close to being an animated teletubbies. It’s so girly It’ll give you cavities.

You never watched G1 before, have you? Look it isn’t the greatest show ever but it was not the super girly show all about tea parties and boys that people seem to think it is. G1 was far more action and adventure oriented than a lot of people think. Honestly, you really should give it a chance if you haven’t, it might surprise you.

Great comparison! Shows perfectly how much has changed in the franchise since its terrible past. If you would remove the “My Little Pony” logo, you would think it’s a different franchise with ponies from another company.
Which is technically true even, since Hasbro only owns the trademarks of the franchise’s name and of some ponies, but it’s created by completely different people and a different studio than G1 was, who give it their own and much better style.
Anyway, this shows nicely the differences between that cheesy and girly abomination from the past and the serious and mature show it is today.

I believe Spike is the character that has appeared in the most MLP related Media, only skipping out on Tales and New Born Cuties (though NBC I have not watched so maybe he’s in that somewhere).

Spike has the distinction of being the only MLP character to appear in both MLP movies.

G1 Twilight and AJ were in the original ’84 special,
and none of the other ‘mane six’-alike G1s were in the movie either, if I recall,
most being in the Dream Valley canon tv series instead.
