There are cases where the mane 6 meet a male character and there’s actual chemestry between them. Like rainbow dash and quible pants. Even though i support soarindash to the very end, i do agree there is chemestry, even if just a little, between them. So it’s only up to the writers. They can do a good story if they want, all they gota do is leave the confort zone

I get the feeling that they got scared off of the concept by the backlash about it after EG1, and aren’t invested enough in the idea of mane six romance to go for it despite that (unlike say, alicorn Twilight or redeemed Starlight Glimmer).
 
Honestly, given the way that romance subplots have a bad tendency to take over stories when introduced, I think any real romance including the mane six would have a good chance of backfiring (even without taking fan backlash into account), except maybe as an epilogue type thing.
 
If they wanted to write about romance, it’d probably be better to limit it to side characters who only show up a couple times per season, like Big Mac and Sugar Belle.

They really do need to do something with this ship. They’ve already proven that they can make romances in this show believe able if done right and that they know how to give secondary callback characters flesh. We’ve seen sci-twi is a bit different then pony Twi so pony flash might be more interesting then human flash if given flesh. I have a feeling though that they may not do anything till the series final season since they haven’t had much need to give Twilight much else a princess could have. She’s got friends, a castle, a pupil, a pet, an assistant, and the only thing she needs I’m guessing as the finisher will be a boyfriend. With that boyfriend we’ll get the main or side main character or characters to G5 after G4 ends and we’ll have to wait likely 3 yrs for G5 to happen after.
