There is nothing to be confused about. Comics aren’t canon. Hasbro provide synopsis, tips and design of the things already written in the future episode. Comics just make fillers about those things, which are later disregarded by show staff.

IIRC, Bobby Curnow gets to read the scripts for the episodes before the season even come out. So I assume the comics are based on the episodes, rather than the episode based on the comics.

They also clearly gave them the story because the secondary legends told in Legends acknowledge that they’re not telling the story that the character is mostly known for.

It isn’t that hard to get. Hasbro designed the characters first and told IDW to make a Legends miniseries with those characters.
