Unless there is somthing that says the there is no canon connection to EQG, you might be wrong.  
If you say how staff have said so, I’ve only seen them say it will not effect the show and that was long ago, and it’s been noted somthing said by staff a few years ago might might no longer be true.

She didn’t play a real part in driving the plot, that’s why.  
And if you mean from the ponies, there was nothing about her in the book.

No one said anything about Starlight, and she was in the freaking episode!!!
