I think you’d find the implications are more unfortunate than popularity. The scootabuse tag is the most populated abuse tag on the site, and every one of those pictures would have her name on them by default.

I think in 1 year Trixie could be on top 9 , there is “just” Spike on her way  
so gogo we need more Trixie pictures! :)

Luna, despite being the most popular princess, hasn’t even cracked 100,000 posts yet. Sunset and Spike haven’t even cracked 50,000.

22, 23 if you count both of Vinyl’s tags. Then take into account the only non-EQG post S3 characters in the top 500 overall tags are Maud and Coco, and Flurry Heart if you expand it to 750 (Expand it to 1000 and there’s also Tirek, Cheese Sandwich, Thorax, and Tree Hugger, and as of this comment tag #1000 is Rara) (BTW this is excluding EQG outright and considering Marble, Limestone and Moondancer to be S1 characters)

Not all of these tag numbers are accurate. Sometimes the number of tag pictures don’t show up when you search them. Either they were deleted or something else.

She is portrayed like a bullied nerd who plays videogames, with a hidden edgy dark side. Neckbeard’s wet dream.

Luna being the most popular after the mane 6 always gets me. aside from the mane 6 being the usual focus of the show and thus being in a lot of screencap tags, Luna is not.
 
Sometimes I think she is an obscure character, but then i realise why I like her too.
 
Her design, personality, and the way she is shown in the comics. Maybe we all like the underdog?
 
Luna has flaws, her “perfect” sister comes off like a robot, I think that makes Luna more interesting.
