I don’t know if they’ve used that exact terminology, but it’s pretty obvious that the EqGverse is a different dimension/universe/reality/whathaveyou.

EqG is canon? Okay.

Mane6 from MLP FIM are teenagers? <<<< Nope. And yes, it is canon.  
If they explain that EqG is in another dimension I’m fine with it.

Ever since the first Equestria Girls movie, I’ve been glad that they’ve kept the EqG storyline from affecting the FiM storyline. But now I’ve reached the point that I want something from EqG to affect FiM, just to see what sorts of logical gymnastics people would go through in order to argue that it’s still not canon.

it also depends on the role they play in each series. take Rarity and Cheerilee for example: both are around the same age in FIM; in EqG, the former, a high school student, is a teenager while the latter, the school librarian, is most likely in her twenties* if not her thirties.  
_{*I wouldn’t count on her being younger than twenty-five, that’s for sure!}
