Tirek also did evil despite the fact his brother was good. He even took advantage of Discord and back-stabbed him. And he didn’t reform either.
@DanielTepesKraus
Pharynx isn’t bright and Thorax was still good before his appearance changed. As controversial as the choice of changing the overall appearance of the Changelings is, I like that they’re now more unique as opposed to most of them looking exactly the same.
@herooftime1000
totally. it should also account that bad people aren’t always going to be placated by friendship, and have their own motivations and needs that are indifferent to friendship. if a guy robs you and you say “i’ll be your friend instead”, you want to take bets on whether he’d drop his gun and say “FINALLY!” or just laugh and keep robbing you?
@herooftime1000
I was actually glad the Storm King died for this exact reason, although I wouldn’t be surprised if they tried to magically fix him somewhere down the line so they can reform him as well.
I’m genuinely starting to worry that this whole “everyone’s reformable” thing is going to kill the show.
Yeah, that’s becoming more and more apparent. Here’s a friendship lesson that’s more suitable for the real world:
Friendship isn’t always about making as many as you can. Sometimes, it’s about finding the people you trust to help you through moments against adversity. It’s opposing forces that allow all people of all walks of life to become stronger as a group rather than alone. I think they lost that when it comes to some villains. They certainly got it right with the Storm King, letting him die by his own hubris when Twilight and friends refused to give in.
@herooftime1000
admittedly the show is in dire need of a “some people can’t be trusted” lesson. honestly i’d love to see that with chrysalis in season 8. they try to “reform” her in the same kind of “just let them run wild and free and hope they change” approach they took with discord and starlight, and (albeit while learning a bit about her personality-wise) she ultimately just takes every advantage of it to back stab and use them like objects. sometimes “just being their friend” or “just being nice to them” just isn’t enough.
@mjangelvortex
that was largely just a mocking stab at the changelings and their whole “they need to magically be bright and pretty to be good” angle, but point taken. though i will counter the only reformation in the entire show to not rely on a “he was never evil just had a bad day” sob story was discord.
@DanielTepesKraus
Gilda, Starlight, Discord, and Tempest reformed based on choice. I’d kind of argue that the Changelings did too. Luna and Sunset seem to be the only two that I can think of that were reformed via “taste the rainbow” friendship magic.
Am I the only one REALLY scared about Meghan McCarthy’s “not evil, just broken” motif in the show? There are evil people out in the world that don’t reform no matter how hard you try. I’m not sure reforming all villains sends the right message that all people are willing to listen.
@wolfnanaki
and so yet again it’s literally just “magic” that makes them friendly. not actually reforming due to choice or anything. such a cynical outlook on friendship.
@Zharkaer
Hasbro is on a reform rampage. They are literally trying to reform every last villain and miscreant of the show. It’s only a matter of time before we have reformed parasprites and timberwolves.

The story goes like this: Bon-Bon discovers Windigos in Ponyville, and she and Lyra do recon work. Turns out Dr Hooves made a time machine that accidentally dumped the Windigos from the very first Hearth’s Warming into the present day, along with Flash Magnus, Rockroof, and the rest of the Pegasus Guard and the Mighty Helm. They all work together to ward off the Windigos long enough for the Doc to get the time machine running again. Flash, Rockhoof and the rest drag the Windigos back to the past with them, but one of the Windigos gets caught by the Fire of Friendship Lyra made, and transforms into this.
