Eh it’s the cycle for most memes these days. More exposure apparently dooms it to being unfunny in a week or so. For this reason I don’t have any problem with people claiming a meme to be “outdated”, “unfunny” etc since it’s just pointing out the expected. There just needs to be a clearer distinction between “it’s not funny because it’s being posted everywhere and annoying everyone” and “actually didn’t find this funny”.
That being said, I only take issue against some self-proclaimed memers who just happen to come at the tail end of a meme and be like “wow this was always a trash meme” without saying a single word about it before. :V

Then take it on the chin and bear it silently, because complaining about other people liking something does nothing constructive. At best, it annoys people, and at worst, it makes people feel guilty for no reason.

i do avoid it, but since it is so overused, its everywere and there is nowere to hide, nowere to run, nowere is safe.
the coughing example was about overusing something, the reason why memes die is because they get to everyone, and when everyone is using it and it appears on 200 videos of “dank memes version 267” n stuff, it stops being special, it stops being funny for most people, and eventually it dies, then comes the middle point where the next “dank meme” takes place over the last one, and then it enters a state of “hey man, remember that old meme? -yea, haha it was neat back in the day”
i mean, now the last hit in VRchat is a bunch of people dressed in hazmat suits with an anti-knuckles logos in it and flametrowers going everywere and burning them until they change their avatar
Coughing is not a community effort. Jokes and memes are.
You don’t get to complain that something isn’t funny anymore just because you have been over-exposed to it. People still find it funny, and if you don’t, then the onus is on you to avoid it.

there is a sentence i like to use, provided by “akindalewar” or something like that, and i quote:
“lets say you cough once, its all good right? then you cough several times more, its kinda bad but its still fine, but if you COUGH EVERY SINGLE FUCKING SECOND, YOU MAY AS WELL COUGH YOUR BLOODY LUNGS OUT!”
