You’d figure she would not only get the Pillars out but also keep the PoS in limbo because of her attention to detail and wanting to look good for Star Swirl. When AJ said Twilight doesn’t do things halfway, I said Bullshit! The PoS is loose because she did things halfway: she got the Pillars out but was so wet for Star Swirl she totally forgot about the Pony of Shadows.

Bad move bringing up the comics, considering there’s an entire story line where she refuses to stop a group of bandits, even as they’re ROBBING PEOPLE RIGHT IN FRONT OF HER, because of the stupid excuse that ‘they’re Equestrian citizens too.’ And then the rest of the story deals with her and the girls setting up a scheme that is probably itself technically legal by the barest margins to trick the group into breaking ANOTHER law, something about trespassing on government property (which apparently tops repeated robbery in Twi’s eyes), at which point Twilight effortlessly rounds them up.
 
So no, the comics can have Twilight act in completely moronic ways too.

There is much similarities between Aang (from Avatar) and Twilight (in the show). They both ready to fight on first call, but not kill.  
Here Twilight is not ready to kill or fight ether. She is not even giving them any other solutions, she is only insisting on stalling time, just asking for more innocent to suffer.  
So yea, this Twilight is a brat.

It isn’t inconsistent with her character. In episodes 1 and 2 her plan was to rush her job, ignore Celestia’s advice and lone-wolf her way through Nightmare Moon because she thought the elements were some weapon she could wield on her own. She went into business for herself in Canterlot Wedding as well, she was just right that time.

After what happened in S7 finale, I really do question Twilight’s judgement. It first cropped up in S5 finale in the Changeling “present”. Toss in her attempt to steal the Hippo’s artifact instead of negotiating. I simply don’t trust her anymore.
 
Of course it’s the writers’ fault. Why are they doing this to book horse?

Speaking of the movie Twilights plan was to steal the transformation pearl thing and make everyone super powered and do an assault on the Storm King and his army. Heck, Twilight went to the Hippogriffs with the hope of them joining her in taking back Cantorlot, that wasn’t going to be some kind of long talk over tea with the Storm King.
 
I get why this is portraying Twilight this way, it’s how a lot of fanworks do it, but when you look at the actual canon of the show (and heck the comics as well if you want) it just doesn’t really bare this overly pacifistic portrayal out. At least not to the extent some fans want it to anyway.

This comment section is throwing my entire perception of reality into question…
 
Oh uh, my take on this is that war/violence is an absolute last resort, and in this case it appears that it is a last resort. But if Twilight is so sure that diplomacy will work, she should go herself, she’s strong enough magically to defend herself in case it goes tits up.

I should note that Sombra isn’t the only one they killed.

The fact she let a monster loose so she could fangirl over Star Swirl is a good example.

There are those that cannot be reasoned with. They are like Hitler when he ordered his troops to hold onto Stalingrad and fight to the last bullet. They are like the Japanese officers who ordered Banzai charges against American troops in the Pacific and convinced their civilians to commit suicide rather than surrender. They are like those “leaders” that ok strapping bombs onto retarded people and kids and send them into busy civilian commercial activities. Against such opponents swift overwhelming violence is the only way to eliminate them.  
I wonder how many ponies will have to die before Twilight kills in order to stop ponies from being killed; probably when one of her friend’s relatives gets killed. Some people only act when it affects them directly. Other people’s deaths mean nothing so long as her ideals are held up. Luna and Celestia date back to a more threatening age so they’re more likely to act first to minimize pony deaths. Remember, this is the pony who suggested to Zecora to take Queen Crissy’s word.

Come to think of it, Twilight hasn’t actually won a fight in any season. She gambles with the lives of her friends or in that instance with the entire world and got lucky. Don’t know why Celestia didn’t put her in her place right from the get go.

Also, now that I think about it, Twilight uses her fight with Tirek as her go-to. She seems to forget that she capitulated the instant he threatened his hostages. She was outright defeated in that battle and only pulled it out because the world blessed her with another of its magical doomsday artifacts. Left to her own devices Nightmare Moon, Chrysalis, Sombra, Tirek and Storm King all walk over her. She didn’t really beat any of them, so the rug gets pulled right out from under her basis of argument.
