That doesn’t change the fact that she was daft enough to release it in the first place. It wasn’t like the Pillars were going anywhere. She had plenty of time to figure out how to do it right, or at least set up a failsafe.

After reading about what a threat the PoS was, seeing the Pillars seal themselves away with it after Starswirl talked about making a “last stand,” a pony as intelligent as her couldn’t put two and two together and realise that you couldn’t bring one back without the other? BS.

Than you should know that Twilight did not expected the PoS to return with the Pillars. She always admired Starswirl and was excited to finally meet him so I don´t blame her for not thinking it through.

I’ve covered this particular point before in the past. If Twilight genuinely didn’t see the Pony of Shadows’ release coming, then she was the biggest idiot of them all.
 
Let me put it like this: I have quite the bit of interest in Erwin Rommel, because of how shrewd a tactician he could be, as well as how he treated his prisoners with respect compared to other Nazi officers. If I knew he was sent to Limbo when he died, I’d personally love to be able to talk to him in person if I could bring him back, simply because of how much I could learn.
 
But if I thought that bringing him back could also end up releasing a load of other Nazis from Limbo, all still hell-bent on world domination… nope, not doing it. Screw how much I could learn, or even how much I could teach him. It’s not worth the risk.

Twilight meant well and could not resist the idea to finally meet her idol. She did not intend to free the Pony of Shadows.

Yeah, he was cast out, but that was portrayed as the wrong thing to do. Same with Twilight being called out. That’s my beef with it in the first place—it still comes back to “Twilight/Stygian did nothing wrong.”

Yeah, and he became the host because he was that butthurt over being called out for being a sneaky little thief. And I don’t know what episode you were watching, but I certainly don’t remember Stygian being called out for stealing the artifacts—or Twilight for setting him loose in the first place, for that matter.

I already said that borrowing the artifacts without permission was wrong. So was kicking him out without giving him a chance to explain himself. Both sides made mistakes and forgave each other.
 
Actually he was only the host for the Pony of Shadows.

And yet he still stole their stuff without saying anything. Between that and him turning into a world-ending shadow monster, I’m not inclined to believe this “poor, misunderstood Stygian” line.
