My biggest problem funnily enought started in her first episode. I don’t know why but I never really liked the equality schick. It only got worse ater that, since at the very least she was defeated and humiliated in her first two parter, and when I discovered that she was about to reappear in the last two parter of season 5, I was like…..“Awwww”.
And then the rushed redemption…………yeah, let’s just say there’s a good reason why you should be grateful that my worst outburst happen IRL and when I’m alone rather that in company (IRL or online).
After that, things go up and down depending of the episode, but she’s definitely not in my top favorite MLP characters.
My biggest issue is that she caused the end of the world at some point. Sure, a lot of villains do that too, but she did it by accident, she did it because of a petty revenge and ultimately killed everyone without being corrupted by magic or for aiming for total extintion, or at the very least entirely apathetic to everything, she did it out of stupidity. Kefka destroyed the world because he took joy out of it, Tarkin destroyed Aldeeran to cause fear among other worlds, even the Skull Kid could have destroyed Termina without meaning it, but he was being possesed by an evil demon so he wasn’t really able to control his actions. Starlight pretty much almost caused total extinction because she never thought the mane 6 were the ones that saved equestria, and did it out of pettiness and unability to understand what she was doing, and even the “she just didn’t knew that the mane 6 were the ones who holded equestria together” doesn’t cut it when you think that she spent all that time indoctrinating ponies in her admitedly stupid belief, a belief she developed because she lost a freaking childhood friend, no long abuse history, no disasters directly caused by cutie marks, not even multiple friends lost by cutie mark incidents, just ONE childhood friend. And it’s easily forgiven for that!!??
After that I more or less put that aside but even then Starlight often appears to be shilled by the history, which sometimes still rub me to the other side.
The worst character for MLP? No, I must admit Hate sink characters are indeed far more unlikeable. The worst villain of MLP? Close, but Demon Juniper was arguably worse so no. But I don’t like her very much, even on her first appereance (there’s a good reason why I have a milk badge instead of an equal badge, even when roleplaying I just didn’t wanted to play on her side.)
OK, I guess that’s all, never thought I would make a rant in mu friggin life for something like this, but I guess I just wanted to take it out of my body. Negativity out, bring the possitivism.

My biggest problem with Starlight being redempted is that it took yet another good villain, a potential magic rival to twilight.
Think about it, how many villains are left? Chryssie. She gets one this season and thats it. And yet remember how we love her? Or Trixie even before she was pardoned? Or all the others?
The show needs villain, and they all “die” by friendshipping, which is sad tbh.

But Starlight is maybe only a “Twilight” if we talk about magic, but about their behaviors are really opposites. Really I would like watch about Twilight being stressed about Starlight and at some point, she showing more discipline and grumpy, like her old self in season 1 and 2. But Twilight is even more forgettable than Celestia and lack of humor is something I couldnt stand about Twilight, despite I love Starlight, cause that, she is a challenge about issues and making friendships without “mainstream methods”.
Dito. It was written by M.A. Larson (and Scott Sonneborn) who stayed in contact with Lauren Faust after she had to leave the show. And as far as I know Lauren never said anything bad about Starlight Glimmer. Actually Starlight IS Twilight how Lauren wanted to see her progression - and not Twilacorn.
Well, I have no problem with Starlight, or Princess Twilight or whatever. There is a kind of red string through the entire series: The Elements of Harmony - The Crystal Empire - Princess Twilight - The Tree of Harmony - The Cutie Map - Twilights Student - The Return of the Pillars. Okay, some aspects are a little bit undeveloped, but I think that’s not such a great deal.
As much as i can’t stand Glimmer or other Hasbro bullcrap like all other additional alicorns, crystal castle andequestria girls etc. I still think we are lucky with what we got after original creator Lauren Faust left the show. Compared to Star Wars series and how it is treated by Disney, the new MLP is veery faithfull to S1 and S2. Theres just additional fatigue caused by over 150 episodes being made and story ediotrs running out of ideas. This led to things like Glimmer and Cutie Map and recently the friendship school.

Um, Starlight’s reformation happened the same season she was introduced in. I think they always planned on reforming her. Especially, so they could make toys of her later.

Your whole statement is an assumed insight view of the show creators. No proof. Nothing concrete. Only wild speculation and terrible, terrible wrong conclusions. Terrible not because the insulting of a character. No you’re really think, that a season changes just because of some… what? What is your point exactly? At the end of season 5 it was clear, that Starlight will become Twilights new personal student. You’re really think the show has added some episodes just because Starlight was controversial? Because of the so called no-no? Sorry, but that’s just hilarious.
And what you said about Hasbros financial interests is as wrong as the rest of your statement. You don’t want to exclude a big part of your customers. It doesn’t make sense. Indeed you create more and more background characters, because most of the fandom has the toys of the already existing ponies. That’s the reason why we have the new student six. New toys! Good job, Hasbro. :-)
