And lets not forget that flashy shows is not a core value of friendship, but food, fun, festivities, music and dancing, sharing stories and talking about life.
 
What Twilight was trying to do was turn the festival into a flashy entertainment production and in her desire to make the festival ‘bigger and better,’ Twilight had lost sight of what friendship is, or the activities which help foster the formation and deepening of these interpersonal bonds with each other.

Yeah, this is why the movie characterizations didn’t sit well with me. In my mind, Celestia would’ve always said yes.

The sun appear in the night sky but the sky doesn’t turn into day sky.

I like to think it was timed for when she’d do that anyway. Not likely, but still.

Indeed it was Luna who sort of balked at the idea of moving the sun and moon for a party, not Celestia. But the more important thing was the princesses didn’t want Twilight to rely on them in this instance.

Technicalities…

Technically Celestia never said “No”. Or never. Or anything about this. She just said they (the princesses) uses their powers to serve Equestria in their own way. :-D

point is, she wants twilight to be the focus of the friendship festival. if they do as twilight said, people would focus on other princesses, not twilight. celestia have summer sun celebration, luna have nightmare night, friendship festival is supposed to twilight moment to shine.

It was the only way out they had.

Twilight had to organize the festival by herself in the Movie,that ‘s what they agreed with the princesses,Celestia wanted Twilight to do this thing by herself that’s why she didnt wanted to do Twilight job.In the episode,she salvage Twilight play by representing herself as the sun
