Given that this comic is meant for kids, how many of them would ‘get it’? Not trying to be an ass here, I just wonder how many modern children would recognize the inspiration for this art.

It’s not that kind of homage. I am the creator here, so it is my hand reaching for pinkie when it’s on my bookshelf. Just referenced the pose a little for personal giggles.

There is nothing wrong with subtle references.
 
It’s like that comedian who made some jokes said he liked to write his bits. He would just start with a general joke that everyone would laugh at and then make it more and more specific and ob sure by adding little bits to it until only two people in the audience are laughing anymore, but those two people are absolutley howling with laughter.
 
Another example of this is that most of the people here won’t know which comedian I’m referencing, nor should they be expected to. That doesn’t make this comparison any less of a nod to their comedic style though, if anything considering the context it’s even more of a nod.
 
Does that make any sense? Things don’t have to be blatant, or even really obvious at all for them to be nice little nods.
 
On a side note, I think that Michelangelo won’t mind the fact that the hommage is a bit obscure here considering the fact that I’m almost completley positive he’s been dead for literally hundreds of years.

Yea but if you’re going to do an homage, it’s way too subtle. I can barely see it even after it’s been pointed out. @Esteban  

 
Sums it up pretty well. Rainbow’s not even close to being in the proper pose for this. I get it’s because of the balloons, but any reference goes out the window when RD isn’t in Adam’s pose here (Pinkie’s pose I love, and I could probably see it if even if the balloons RD would strike the pose.
