@Antonyourknee
At the same time though, he’s done more to get the left to expose how absolutely corrupt and ideologically driven they are than any other candidate. Just to use a recent example, these are the same folks that are so opposed to I.C.E that they will protest their actions when they break up a child sex ring and even go out onto the streets chanting slogans like “No Trump, No wall, No USA at all.”
I have hopes of the human race lasting beyond 2050 because at some point, they will have to take a good long look at themselves and ask the question “What is it about my way of viewing politics and the world that is wrong and how can I correct it so that I can assess future issues in a more rational manner?”
@BK Leonidas
The stance of the modern “left” today is very much in a sorry and sad state and humanity will have to deal with the poor state of outdated marxist retoric and contrarian regression that has corrupted the “liberalism” of today. But Trump is no great leader,he is a man who clearly did not fully appreciate the rigors of the office of the president and takes little effort to act as overarching figure of leadership the office implies.(not that Obama did much of that either but at least he knew how to compose himself.) Trump Has arrogantly and blatantly taken the office to use to push agendas that is clearly provacative and unprecedented in style without taken the needed effort to moderately explain the the need or fundamental aspects (if there are any)to the American people
While I’m glad Hilary or Bernie was not put in office,can you understand that Trump has been a massive dissapoinment and The fact that we ended up with such terrible options in the end for president in the 2016 election was almost criminal. Since he came into office he has had the White House filled with scandles and controversy that he does little to nothing to put down other than to deny it and then ingnore it entirely thus allowing them to build up and continue to stain the nation. He gets into into petty Fights with media and celebertys and rather than prove them wrong by working hard in office to make real progress, he just insults them with tweets comparable to a 14 year old girl. Other then his wall idea(which is for so many reasons impractical to build and maintain) his policies consist of generic republican ideas and retoric (with the occasional Trump terminology) that any republican president could have done.
I like that he sanctioned Venezuela and accepted Jeresulum as Israel’s capital among other things but beyond that I don’t think he has put the effort to make the policies he has implemented binding(as in they would survive a democratic presidency ) or helped to push back against the left in the mainstream. As someone who lives near New York City I can tell you Trump killed any sympathy for the “right” here and has emboldend the left and forced it into more “organized” movements that has been not been copied on the “right” as in their mind he represents everything they think the goverment is,whether he intends to or not(rich,old white guy with dubious relations with women who supports the far rigth and wants to rule with authoritarian power and turn America into a white supremacy dictator state of Patriarchy and such and such) and he has done little to nothing to disprove this view to them…basically I feel Trump has failed to be what he promised and to better than the what the rigth has given before.
I had hoped that Trump could jumpstart a global push so that a global “conservative” front could come forward as America built up new alliances with Europe to ensure that the regressive left that has become so prominent around the world and especially in Europe could be pushed out of the mainstream but Trumps petty conflicts over NATO budgets and migration numbers has isolated America and emboldend the regressive left in these countries to take more influence in society while “conservatives” there are hard pressed to justify their relations with Trump to the moderates of their nations.
I see nothing to be proud of with Trump or with what the republicans have done,their ideas and retoric is nothing new and at best tries to preserve an already lost era of America rather than bring new ideas that can attract the moderates of society and allow “conservative ideas” to be applicable to most Americans. They have lost the narrative to the left (schools,colleges and most public media and institions already implement and openly support regressive leftist concepts)and don’t seem to to care,little of what he has done could survive a democratic presidency(most of his actions are executive orders as even with a majority republican congress he can’t get things settled) which is Almost certain to happen in 2020 and as such his “results” are meaningless.
It’s really depressing to think that America is in such a state now,considering how many great and dignified leaders America had in its history and how almost nothing and no one in mainstream American politics can even hope to match it today.
Dahm I honestly don’t think society as we know it will survive to 2050 at the rate were going.
@Antonyourknee
I’m just going to respond with this. There are things I will disagree with Trump about. But at this point in time and most likely in the years to follow, him and others like him are better than anything the left has to offer.
And maybe getting Europe to be more independent and less dependent on the US is a good thing. Also what does the Republican party have to clean up? Trump is actually getting results.
Funny. Because I can’t tell you how many times the left has gone on about things like wanting to redistribute the wealth, having taxpayers pay for someone’s abortion, having major social media and video sharing sites censor certain opinions so that people’s feelings don’t get hurt, how immigrants need low-income jobs more than poor legal citizens, how the Anglosphere is too populated by white people who love their country and all the freedoms that got them to where they are now, how it’s media’s fault that shootings are becoming more commonplace and not because of bad parenting or having a male’s hormones suppressed by drugs, how throwing more money at gender studies professors will help solve the problem with education, how legacy news TOTALLY wouldn’t slander people they disagreed with politically by calling them a Nazi and dox/blackmail someone over a meme that got tweeted out by the president, and so many other topics. Fortunately, the left is totally sane and not being taken over by a bunch of radical socialists and communists, such awareness of why they’re going to lose to Trump and John Reese Morgan and other right-leaning candidates in the years to come.
Lets not pretend that either party(Republican or Democrats,as there is no simple “left” or “right” parties)are creating or forming policies that are what America needs.
The republicans in power for now have gotten Even more arrogant and under President Trump have leaned (more than usual)toward policies that blatenly shill for corporations and fossils fuels at the expense of the environment and energy progress,their domestic policies have been a sad mess that have disgruntled much of the population and given many no incentive to obey or respect goverment policy or authority (thus allowing them to fall under the influence of radicals) and have only further divided the public. The foreign policy of Trump has been sketchy At best and rather than drive our European allies towards “conservative” values he has mainly pushed them further from Americas sphere and toward further “liberal” values. His presidency has been a unprecedented stain for the republicans that will take generations to fix if ever and what little was done could hardly be attributed to Trump as any Republican president could have done what little he accomplished.
The dems of course are little better,they sit on their high horse rallying in opposition to Trump while spouting generic retoric like “Equality” and “inclusion” but beyond impeaching trump it’s clear they have little plans for the nation. For all the victories they claim for “progressive” values, the economic and social situation of the many centers they hold influence over has only gotten worse in recent years with debt and overpopulation among other things riddling the blue states. They seem to hold postions that are more contrarian to “rigth-wing” views than actually practical for the nation and its clear that their platforms and leadership are uninspiring and generic at this point( the fact that they ran Hilary Clinton against Trump and lost shows just how in touch they are with the people). They hope to be a big tent party that can host both socialist ideas with “patriotic” American values but it’s clear that for both “radicals” and “traditionalist” the Democratic Party has litle to offer them but sob stories and anti-trump retoric( the day trump leaves office will be the day the democrats will lose over half their direction)and they will move on to more directed parties that fit their views I.e. democratic socialist and libertarian parties respectively.
If the Republicans respond to disasters by downplaying them and hoping the public forgets them in time the Democrats respond by proclaiming impractical solutions that they know will never be implemented and then blaming the republicans when there proposal goes nowhere( not that the Reps don’t also always blame the Dems when things fail in politics). Indeed the fact that much of America’s youth has slid toward extremes on “both” sides( with both left and right extremes displaying open contempt,rascism,fear mongering,hateful retoric and violence) shows that both the Reps and Dems( or at least their federal and state leadership) is out of touch with the American people and prioritize power and brownie points for their side over actual progress and development of America’s future.
Also a side note,I never liked the term “conservative”. It implys stagnation at best,regression at worst. Liberals managed to get a brillant term like “progressive” attached to them that by sheer defination implies progress and devolpment with their policies(which in reality they often lack). I always thought a better term for “conservative” ideas would be “reconstructionism”which implys an acknowledgement of the triumphs and failures of the best,but With a desire to facilitate those past values with modern ones and to merge them to build a better future. With today’s war of words and culture such rebranding will mean the difference between life or death for poltics.
@chaoscat
Yeah. The right has become the party that actually listens to people’s problems and appeals to the common voter
I have to say, I can’t even count the number of times I’ve heard the common voter complain about how taxes for billionaires are too high, and how healthcare is too cheap, easy to get, and covers too much, and how the environment is too clean, and how there are too many protective regulations preventing banks from lying to us or gouging us, and how the internet is too free and doesn’t cost enough, and how no one needs a livable wage, and how friendly our allies around the world are, and how few school shootings there have been lately, and how much better our education system is compared to the world, and how free and un-attacked the media is here, and so many other issues. Fortunately the right is doing its best to reverse all those terrible situations, such concern for the average voter it has.
@chaoscat
Yeah. The right has become the party that actually listens to people’s problems and appeals to the common voter while the left has become of a bunch of ideologues that would rather push an agenda then listen to a working person’s issues. Yesterday’s evangelical Christans have become today’s radical socialists.
Because in an age when it’s ALL propaganda, ALL fake news, at least you still get to pick and choose the fake news you find most entertaining. And, like his ideological predecessor and spiritual antecedent Art Bell, what he’s selling may be preposterous lies, but they’re amusing preposterous lies. You cannot buy entertainment like this.
@Antonyourknee
It has taken most of my life, but I’ve come to understand what conservatives want from the government and the people, and acknowledge how rich, white, racist jackasses who take up most of the spotlight on the hill have diluted those desires and the ultimate purpose of the Republican party.
There are things the people cannot do that the government can and vice versa, and I’d like to believe in the long run We The People can eventually figure out who can take care of what, but I’ve been over the 250-ish history of the country and have deduced that we’re all idiots in comparison to older, more efficient governments. XD
@abzde
Sadly such a model of “money over matter” is not new or discriminated in any side in politics,however I would certainly say that have of lately become extremely fickle and absurd to new degrees that even 15 years what would have been unthinkable for both the left and right has become all to common.
