I realize this is an old thread. No one replied to you though, so…

These changelings went in for Ocellus’s parent-teacher conference in A Horse Shoe-In. Then, they were officially referred to as her mother and father on the MLP Wiki, Gameloft game, and trading card game. Spiracle and Carapace, respectively.

In the end, Chrysalis being every changeling’s mother has more evidence against than for. The only scenario that takes all canon events into account, and still holds up the colony method for reproduction is that Thorax held mass-scale adoptions of nymphs after he took power, which seems like a hell of a stretch. I would think something like that would’ve been mentioned in Triple Threat, when Thorax was venting to Spike about his issues.

Judging by the scene we saw in Thorax’s flashback of Chrysalis overseeing newly hatched grubs, I’m inclined to believe that she pulled off an Ancient Rome militia move. She didn’t birth the eggs, but she did force all the eggs in the hive to be raised together under her direct supervision, to ensure they were raised as loyal warriors for her mass-scale personal army. That’s the best explanation I’ve thought of that explains how Chrysalis oversaw eggs but didn’t apparently birth them, according to Ocellus’s canonical parents.

I genuinely doubt Jim Miller (or any of the other former Friendship is Magic crew members) have thought about, or would care about thinking of, that particular aspect of changeling biology, for 2 big reasons:

I suppose that’s also possible. Maybe they had the biology to reproduce, but Chrysalis, being queen, produced a pheromone that sterilized them so they couldn’t - and now that she’s gone, there’s nothing stopping them.

Eh idk maybe all can reproduce but chrysalis was the only one to do it because she’s queen but now she’s gone all are free to reproduce

Eh, I like to imagine that, because of the bug portion of their DNA, they have a bit more flexibility with that until the generations in the future that are sufficiently distantly related enough to each other where there aren’t any worries about in-breeding (and again, this is assuming that the reformed changelings form distinct family units with a mother and father who breed to produce offspring, rather than one queen at a time responsible for all reproduction like an insect hive).
 
tl;dr I suppose, is that I don’t imagine incest being an issue.

Because unless thorax marrys a reformed changelings queen idk what is going to happen to the changeling hive

Kind of. As far as what Jim Miller said, he did confirm that the changelings here are related to Ocellus (though he kind of walked it back a bit by saying that since they’re bugs, they might all be related), and then to muddy the waters, when asked if Queen Chrysalis was Ocellus’s mom (or it might have been if she was mother to the changelings in this image, I can’t remember the exact question), his response was “Quite probably, yes”.

Has the fandom settled yet whether or not those other Changel8ings are Ocellus’ family?
