If Equestria Girls is canon, then why don’t they go and make a FiM episode about it? The Movie is quickly accepted as canon because there are enough episodes with characters saying and doing things that confirm the events of The Movie. Everything they’re doing so far about EqG are just Tweeting stuffs and throwing a 30s cameo that doesn’t mean much, then probably forgot about it, until FiM ends.
I really do want EqG to be canon, but what the writers are doing about the subject is… unsatisfying.
As I said, unless they outright confirm or deny EqG existence in FiM. There will still be skeptical people not agreeing Sunset is canon. We can keep our opinions. They won’t change their mind.
Well, I wouldn’t even be surprised if Rick and Morty were canon. But we also have to consider that some ponies simply look like certain personalities.
The sirens are on a different level. The scene matched the previous descriptions, so it built on each other. Literally world building. So please stop this nonsense. ;-)
@genervt
They appear as cameos, no better than the celebrity cameos. If showing up and having no impact whatsoever on the story makes you canon then Rick and Morty is canon to the FiM universe, it’s like anon said. Sometimes authors likes to claim crazy shit that don’t correspond to the reality presented in the show.
@genervt
I mean they can say what they want on twitter but the way they go about it tells me the opposite. Fact is that the siren thing is in the same tier as that flash sentry guard from years back. Both were presented as generic characters that didnt hint to what others imply.
Sunset has zero mentions in FiM and nothing even hinting to her existence in FiM. Celestia has never said anything and despite EqG treating Sunset as Twilight’s first student the show treats Starlight as her first student. With Confalone confirming she’s never going to be on the show than it’s pretty much something that can easily be seen as non canon.
@Eroraf86
That doesn’t prove Sunset exist in FiM. It only shows that there were sirens in Equestria who got banished somewhere. The whole cameo they were presented as generic baddies who weren’t even given names.
The fact is that the show goes out if it’s way to ignore sunset because she simply doesn’t exist in FiM. She’s only part of EqG.
Sunset is pretty much just like the IDW comic series. We can consider them both as canon and non-canon. Unless the main series outright confirm or deny their existences. Say, Twilight Sparkle directly claims that she does (not) know anything about the human world.
Until then, the debate of whether Sunset is canon or not is pointless.
@Dsiak
But Equestria Girls is canon, it just happens to take place in a parallel universe. Whenever Princess Twilight appears she makes references to events in FiM and then there’s season 7 finale where the Pillars banished the Dazzlings. The production notes refer to the sirens as the same ones introduced in Rainbow Rocks.
@Draco-knight-Blaze
Just to clarify, Sunset Shimmer appeared has a pony (both in the original movie and in Mirror Magic) but never appeared in Friendship is Magic, in fact she was never even mentioned by name.
