@Conversed Corruption
Exactly. I’ve never considered myself to be a “Brony” but that doesn’t mean that I can’t appreciate the FIM universe. If you can look past the “girly” setting you can notice that the show borrows mythology from both Greek and Norse mythology including traditional European mythology as well.
Kinda like if you combined the Marvel,DC and Valliant universes together you’d get a simmilar result.
That’s what drew me to the show in the first place. Just the overall world that the show resides in. That and it has more in common with the Sonic universe than most would like to admit. The Chaos Emeralds, the Elements of Harmony, Tirek, Chryssalis, Sombra; they’re like Asguardian level villains. Just like how magic exists in that realm of existence you have characters in the Sonic universe that exhibit supernatural abilities.
To me, I like to think that they all live in a shared universe (except Equestrians are anthro). Like Equestria is just like this supper continent (think in terms of if Alaska had merged with Canada through tectonic shifts) which in a sense could explain the surrounding climate of the Crystal Empire. And both the Chaos Emeralds and Elements of Harmony are actually one in the same. Like a millennia ago there was this meteor that crashed into the planet,but before doing so it had broken off into several large chunks upon entering the stratosphere. Each chunk of the meteorite containing copious amounts of cosmic radiation. So when these chunks impacted the planets crust the entire planet had became saturated with this cosmic energy. Which would be discovered by civilizations much later.
This is all just part of my headcannon of course. Like one great big pseudo comic book universe.
So as time moves on, through adaptive evolution the denizens of the Equestrian nation had become intuned with the cosmic energies that surrounded them. They would refer to this as magic as you would have Pegasus who were able to manipulate the weather, earth ponies who in turn were gifted with much denser muscle tissue giving them great strength and endurance, and the unicorns who were born with the ability to channel and manipulate the energies around them.
Where as in other parts of the world the other peices of the meteorite were unearthed and praised as mystical artifacts. These would be later referred to as the Chaos Emeralds and the Master Emerald. As well as people being born with dormant abilities. Like Sonic’s super speed, Blaze’s ability to control fire, or Mighty’s supernatural strength and durability.
All in all it’s not that far fetched to have Mobians and Equestrians living in the same realm of reality if you really put your mind to it. All you need to do is find the simmilarities between the two and come up with something lore-friendly for it to work.
@chaotic-7
(Nods in approval) And lets not forget Renamon from the older Digimon series for example. It’s 2019 and there’s still a continuation of art for her.
This is why you need to pay attention to what is hot. If you went into ponies at its peak around 2013-2014, you would’ve made a lot of money selling pony “arts” to bronies. Now it’s all over.
Gain fame doing what? If you’re tood at art, or smooth talking, etc. I think that skill won’t disappear :p The fans you’ve gained won’t disappear. Maybe you won’t draw ponies (as much) but the fame will remain.
Heyday of the fandom was like, 3 years ago so you’re already late in a way. BUT! it is actually more correct to think of them as “ages” of the fandom because the people, the attitudes actually rotate. I think what we have here, people, culture, is completely different from season 4, which was completely different from season 1. Ca. 5 years is how long anything social (small blogs/accounts, fandom participants, etc etc.) usually last. Even if the “thing” remains that is still true; the “same fandom” is actually a different type of fandom by then. So don’t worry. Today is the first day of your 5 year fame.
@Backgroundpony
I’m not saying that I disagree with you, like I mentioned before I have absolutely no problem with people who want to analyze and critique. The thing that grinds my gears is how you get people in fandoms (they’re in every crowd not just this one) that try to make themselves out like paragons when in reality they’re nothing more than hypocrites (the people who are in their late 20’ and 30’s). The sad part is that type of thing is still happening to this day.
And it’s like you said about extremist groups, you’ll get people like FNGR,Lilly,Leoconvoy (lets’s face it the guy’s just trying to re-invent himself as the next Chris Hansen). that use that anger. It’s like “Oh, you’re pissed off at these people? Well pull up a thumb Sunny-Jim and let me tell you some more things to get you more pissed.” And that’s what I mean by spreading like a cancer.
I totally agree with you 100% about how everybody needs to chill the F out. But when you have an easily impreshionable audience that’s kinda hard to do. I’m not saying that this fandom is beyond saving or that theres no hope for this fandom. But when you get people who continously air-out their dirty laundry online people soon want dissasociate with a fandom. It’s one of the major reasons why so many people had left this fandom a few years back.
And of course you had those who would get butt-hurt because the fandom didn’t have the same numbers as it once did. Numbers are not what make a fandom great, it’s the content they create and the comradeity that makes a great fandom.
I’m not saying that we need to cut off certain people, but they do need to pull their heads out of their asses and start growing up. That’s what led everything up to Toongate.
Oh and thanks, I know my dad’s in a much better place now.
@chaotic-7 Sorry for your loss
and still the fandom is not a single Person.
Cutting out People for cutting out People is a devil spiral that destroys fandoms/movements/cliques/guilds.
“But it was everything that followed it afterwards, it all just seemed so childish. Like the equivalent of high schoolers gossiping behind eachothers back.”
let´s face it. MOST People in the fandom are in that age range (or were at that Point in time with Tooncritic). Getting Teenager and Young adults worked up and argue is easy that is why Extremist Groups are recruting in that age range. If we cut them out Nothing can heal and/or grow from them.
We got room for the analysists, reaction crowd as we have room for Artist, Writers, Shippers (shudders) and casual fans.
@Backgroundpony
If your talking about trees then yes, but when it comes to the human body it’s a bit different. That’s how I lost my dad back in ‘10. He had stage 4 colon cancer. They cutted it out, but by that time it had already worked itself into his liver and had begun to spread to other parts of his body.
That’s what what I was referring to when I said cut the rot before it spreads.
Just like when it comes to the drama in this fandom, it’s so easy for people get caught up in.
Granted the Tooncritic scandal was a serious issue and it was handled poorly. (And I also believe that he needs to be strung-up by his genitas and get beaten senseless like a pin’ata.)
But it was everything that followed it afterwards, it all just seemed so childish. Like the equivalent of high schoolers gossiping behind eachothers back.
I’ll admit that during that time I happened to stumble upon FNGR’s channel and for a short while I was glad that there had been someone calling them out on their BS. But the more I watched the more disgusted I had become with everything in this fandom. But I soon relized that all that petty crap wasn’t worth my time.
I’m not saying that you should just stick your head in the sand and pretend that everything is sunshine and bumblebees. It’s good to be vigilant when it comes creeps and pedophiles. But when someone goes on twitter and bellyaches about how they aren’t getting invited to some shindig? Well is that really worth losing sleep over?
The fandom isn’t going anywhere, even if the show ends.
Fanfictions, fan animations, fan music and every other pony stuff are still there and always will be.
