Actually, the writers word is all we have to go on because nothing is said in-universe.
 
Therefore, Lofty and Holiday are the first Canon lesbian couple in MLP while LyraBon is just a fan ship.

“Word of God” means nothing. If the writers want to portray them as lesbians, they have to SHOW them as lesbians, not make some claim outside the episode and expect us to go along with it.

Unless it is common to call not Family members Uncle/aunt in america we got a solid base for the Canon by Death of the Author standart.

The most annoying thing about this is, the 8th and 9th season have felt extremely pandering in some cases, and pretty much every one of those attempts have fallen flat on their face.
 
The only one that hasn’t was the villain group, which people wanted for a while, and that’s gone well thus far.

One important fact is that Bon Bon due to being an ex-spy as seen in Slice of Life would not live with somepony unless she completely trusted them yet alone telling them that she is an Ex-Spy. So the fact they are in a relationship could be one reason to inform Lyra about it.

Gay or lesbian couples don’t have to show intimacy or affection all the time. It’s perfectly fine for them to be next to eachother and act casually.

Sorry, but Aunt Holiday and Auntie Lofty had less romantic interaction than nearly all the mare/mare couples we’ve seen in the show. How, exactly, then are they “canon lesbians”?
