Whenever I see a picture of the moon where the points go more than halfway around, I assume it’s being eclipsed by one of those Independence Day ships and interpret the rest of the image in light of that.
Reminds me of how they first visited Mount Eris after the raid of the Storm King…
Matter of fact, I’m getting Outlast 2 vibes in this dark town!! I just hope we don’t end up encountering a crazy tall lady with a pickaxe that wants to smash that pick onto your junk!

That’s not a bad assumption, since Sun and Moon tend to be clearly in front of the clouds in most scenes of a cloudy sky.
I, for one, am going to take this image as evidence of some of Equestria’s stars being in front of its moon.
