I love how they make her bring this good point, just so they can summarily dismiss it by virtue of Sex Appeal Pone being a villain!

If anything, the off-comment Thorax made on her introduction (“I told you, stay in your own form, its more polite that way”) may be more that Ocellus is not aware others are nervous around her changing, but assuming that is the case based solely on Thorax’ caution.
 
And given that seemingly outside her group of friends, the only reaction to her shapechange (into that giant bug) was one of terror.

I would completely believe Ocellus is extremely self-conscious and imagines strangers are uncomfortable with shapechanging, even if it’s not true (especially after what Thorax told her):

I don’t think her shapeshifting makes anyone nervous. Either that or swift foot is lying to everyone to make them turn on each other. I think everyone is gonna be mad at me that I somehow spoiled the rest of the comic. Apologies to anyone who didn’t want this spoiled.

Also a little reminder that changelings destroyed one pony empire and was about to destroying a second one in the canon of the comics, plus two attacks to cantelot with the current generation of ponies. You can’t change your sins with barely one year of being a good boy

Plus, the whole “you’ve been domesticated” bit sort of makes me think of the kind of people who complain a married friend is “whipped” when they can’t stay out drinking until 3AM (or some equally dumb thing like that) and have to return home to their spouse. Yes, on he surface, it’s a change from how they used to be, but the change is in service to a richer, more fulfilling life with someone who cares about them. It’s a reward that outweighs what one has to occasionally give up.

Aye. Literally everypony else was always “Wow, so amazing!” whenever Ocellus showed off her transformations… except for that one time she’d changed into a gigantic monster insect and wrecked part of the school. To blame ponies for panicking at that would be rather silly though.

I don’t agree with that at all. I mean, don’t forget, one of the first things we were ever told about changelings (prior to them being reformed) is that they used their shapeshifting abilities to steal love from other creatures.  

But since they’ve reformed, they don’t have to resort to that kind of trickery anymore. Now they can get love exactly as they are, without having to hide behind false appearances or pretend to be someone else. That’s not just something to be proud of, that’s the sort of thing that you change your entire way of life over. No “force” from ponies needed.
 
Heck, that might even be why the only time we’ve heard anyone tell Ocellus to stay in her own form, it came from the changeling leader, Thorax. He wants her to be proud of her true self, not to hide it.
