Yeah, I always got the impression that Discord still having a blinking power light was entirely due to him being The Actual Spirit Of Chaos and not because the Elements Of Harmony have a problematic fondness for cruel and unusual punishment. It’s kinda supported by the way he only started cracking his way out of stonesleep when good friends got in a heated argument right in front of him.

A somewhat darker thought is that, while still awake and technically alive, she has lost all her senses, meaning that, while she can still think and talk to herself inside her head, she cannot understand what’s going on in the world around her.

Twilight was unconscious when she got petrified by a cockatrice in S1, Rockhoof was requesting a “stone sleep” spell to happen to him in S8, so I think Discord is an exception to the rule, due to his extreme power, which all three of them were lacking in at that moment, even Chrysalis, with her default level strength of that’s above-average, before love consumption, which is how she powers up (kind of like Tirek, but less permanent)
 
So it’s really not a guarantee she’s conscious, and there’d be far more reasons to think she isn’t.
 
TL;DR: Canonical evidence regarding beings not named “Discord” suggests Cozy Glow is unaware.

Thats kinds of fucked up. Discord said he was aware during his stoning. So a non magic wielding little girl is trap inside a unmoving prison. Shes going to turn insane first and then go into a vegetative state. Kind of dark for a show about friendship.

You really underestimate how malicious young children are. Most of them lack a habitual empathy-check and can be merciless when it comes to making their peers miserable. Thankfully, many tend to mellow out with experience and more prolonged contact with other humans over the years.  
What’s unrealistic about Cozy Glow is her insane genius levels of organization and ability to make long-term schemes.

I am of the camp that thinks that Cozy Glow was not actually a young pony, but actually was an adult who never grew to adult size (think of Gary Coleman). Not knocking on kids being smarter than adults, but children rarely, if ever, are so malicious at that young an age. She had to have years upon years of experience and angst to be like this.

I’m actually quite okay with this.  
She has manipulative streak size of Milky Way - you would never be sure if she is actually reformed or just faking it.
 
Besides, it’s another valueable lesson. Sometimes, good intentions just plain don’t work out. Friendship is only possible when its mutual. So sometimes, the only option is to bring out the big guns - or surrender.
