To a certain degree there’s no such thing as an cheap art style.every kind of art style animation method can be expensive or cheap. In fact the main show itself wasn’t very expensive as they were constantly using the same body model

In fairness, alot of those so-called “CalArts” shows do have some differences. Compare Gravity Falls, Gumball, and such, and you’ll see they’re still quite different, despite that “samey smile.”

Perhaps CalArts is not the correct name for it but many shows do use that simple, money saving style. Right down to that same exact grin.

It’s true, alot of the artists, cartoonists, and animators that get accused of being “CalArts” actually went different art academies, or universities.
 
So there really is no “CalArts” style, that’s just a phrase a bitter John K. coined when complaining about any cartoon made after the 1960s.

Heck, I remember back in 2013 anyone whom said anything like, “Maybe we should wait, and judge the (first) Equestria Girls movie when it comes out” were treated like total crap. It was so bad, I almost left this site.

I wasn’t too keen on Splinter’s portrayal, Raph being the leader, the new weapons replacing their iconic ones, and such. But I maybe I’ll give the series another chance. (Though, I’m fine with black April, which some had a cow over. Though, sometimes she acts a li’l stereotypical.)  
I prefer the 2012 series, which kinda better balanced the familiarity, and changes.

This kind of reaction is far from being exclusive to the Brony fandom. In general, people on the Internet hate the budget saving technique that became popular because of Teen Titans Go. ThunderCats Roar and Yabba Dabba Dinosaurs also got outrage when they were announced (the former more then the latter).
 
On the other hand, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles seemed to be this at first but from what I hear, it actually has good animation and fans ended up liking it.

I think the brony fandom has become the Transformers fandom 2.0.  
Basiclally, New = Bad, anything that isn’t the original or changes things is a sin, and Hasbro is worse than Satan’s asshole. Also some toxic hostility towards those who think differently, but nowhere near that of the TF fandom.  
This is what we’ve devolved to and it’s kind of depressing.

Don’t tell us not to complain. Feedback is important. Our dissatisfaction shouldn’t hinder your enjoyment, unless you’re incredibly insecure and weak willed.
