Yeah I imagine that once a few episodes are out most people will calm down. They’ll either think: “Oh this isn’t so bad”, or: “Meh, it’s not for me”. Of course there will still be some screechers that claim Hasbro ruined everything, but if we listened to them then Hasbro ruined everything at least a dozen times by now lol.
@Soctavia
Hopefully things’ll blow over like with the Flurry Heart drama, and such. (Remember back when nobody was allowed to like her?)
As I said, I’m cautious about it, and I doubt it’ll be amazing, but I hope it’s amusing at least.
Heck, I had my doubts about the Sonic movie, (though the original controversial design didn’t bother me) but after seeing the second official trailer it looks more funny, and better then I thought.
@Beau Skunky
Exactly. It seems most people just give a knee-jerk reaction to things that are new/different. Usually said reaction is a negative one. I do partially understand as this animation style already has a pretty negative stigma due to recent cartoon reboots such as Teen Titans GO! However, the extreme levels of outrage from this one, tiny advert is… disappointing.
@Soctavia
Even if it doesn’t turn out great like some fear, it’s just a mini-series of animated shorts, and not even an actual show, so it’ll be easily ignorable.
Heck, some G1 MLP fans actually hate the G4 Lauren Faust style every brony loves. (I even see some consider it “cheap & lazy digital art.”)
As somebody whom saw G1 prior, (‘90s kid here) I kinda felt the same way, at first too, and I even didn’t like Spike being voiced by a girl at first. Then the more I watched G4 the more I fell in love with it’s style.
@Beau Skunky
I agree completely. The animation does feel a little cheap and lazy, but when you realize that this is most likely just G4.5 and simply a placeholder till G5 is ready, then makes sense why they went with an easier and cheaper alternative.
But I feel in some ways, as with this animation, that it’s kinda cute, too. :3
@ABronyAccount
Considering the similar backlash over EqGirls, several IDW artists, the Undersea children’s storybook, and the 2017 movie’s art style, it also feels like fans just want the ponies drawn only one way. (Imagine the backlash once G5 really does come out with it’s new art style.)
Bronies handle change as well as Sonic fans. (And even they’re finally satisfied with the improved Sonic movie design surprisingly.)
That said, I actually prefer fanart where the artist draws ponies in their own unique style, rather then emulate the show exactly. So I actually like seeing new styles, both officially, or unofficially.
I have mixed feelings on “Pony Life” too, but the art style could be way worse, I feel.
And frankly, this Rarity is cute…
@Soctavia
I think there’s a knee-jerk prejudice against anything that might resemble Teen Titans Go!, whether in looks or general direction. Of course we know nothing of the actual series yet.
