It may look a bit funny but hes being heroic putting himself in harms way without any powers to make things right, so his friends can escape and save EQuestria.

And also realizing…Grogars Bell doesn’t even fully drain its targets?  
The princesses can also still fly but Discord is pretty much powerless?  
Couldn’t Tirek do a better job than the bell at that point

Its pretty disappointing that this is all the royal sisters got to do in this finale during the crisis.  
Just lose their magic and not properly fight, this(and feels like this moment got overshadowed anyway).  
Not counting turning the trio to stone since its the AFTERMATH of the crisis, how I feel so iffy about it(really prefer Luna got to do more than that here..) and also its not so epic due when you realize this is sort of the equivalent of kicking someone who is down and powerless.
 
I just wished Luna got to do something big to make things come full circle in a way since how she sort of kicked the show off with her story and first villain as Nightmare Moon.

Tirek most likely didn’t drain all the magic from them, because their cutie marks didn’t vanish and they have still normal eyes, and Tirek didn’t grow at all.

The ricocheting magic still baffles me on like three levels  
Magic bounces off the rock and doesn’t destroy it?  
Magic also destroys anti magic rock and doesn’t bounce off of it?  
Magic can reach the anti-magic stone despite in their episode of introduction it showed that non changeling magic within range of the stone (even strong magic that was already cast like Discords pig) just disappears or doesn’t work to reach it (like Discords teleport)?

To be fair, killing the entire main cast of a children’s show in the middle of two-parter was never something they could’ve done.
 
The real mistake was using the throne shards to suppress their prisoners’ magic when the Legion of Doom had a magic stealing artefact with them the whole time. Even without Tirek’s inexplicable ricocheting magic attack and the failure of the shards’ poorly defined magic absorbing properties, it would still mean that they’d have all their magic back if they were rescued, effectively sending the Legion back to square one.

It’s worth pointing out that Starlight’s power is proportional in magnitude to her emotions. I think the fact she’s putting her life on the line for the sake for her friends, the realization that this could very well be her final minutes, might have given her power level one hell of a boost.

Glimmy has the honor 9f being the only little pony held like that by both Luna and Celestia at some point. (:

I’d probably put her even above Starswirl at this point. Consider the immense chances to magic there has probably been since Starswirls prime over a thousand years in the past.

These are like, alicon-tier opponents and Starlight in there beam struggling while self-levitating. Reminder that she’s not a Pillar, nor an element bearer, nor an alicorn, nor a chaos god, nor has received any powerups during her ENTIRE career.  
She’s just a regular unicorn.
 
However as unicorns go, she’s god-tier, second only to Starswirl. In fact I’m willing to say that Starlight Glimmer is currently pound-per-pound the best combat wizard Equestria’s got.

The villians one mistake was Tirek not draining Starlight when he had the chance.
 
Plus I see Starlight not being at her full strength here because she JUST came out of being totally powerless, plus she got blasted full force in the back less then a minute prior,

So flash and somnambula can fly despite their magic being drained. Well flight isn’t completely a magic dependant thing I suppose just cloud landing and weather control (maaaaybe some regular birds can land on clouds are all birds just gifted with that magic)

The villains’ biggest mistake was not killing everyone when they had the chance.

Starlight was weaker in raw power than all three of them, even Cozy, judging from what happened here. Thankfully, Luna was there to catch her.
 
It was always a doomed effort with them, in any case, since the distraction was always the goal.
