I like Apples, I speak seriuous. Obviously not at the level of AJ and AB, but I agree with you that Apple Bloom design is simply amazing and makes you think about a red apple. My favorite CMC is Sweetie Belle, I won’t lie, but is only a few steps in front of Apple Bloom, who is really beautiful too!

Same man. Though it’s her determination to get a cutie Mark that hooked me to her. She did everything she could to find her calling and never stopped trying. It reminded me of my past self in a lot of ways.

I’m always for Apple Bloom, too! She is very relatable and I just adore her design. It’s like she has the colors of the red apple itself which makes her look so yummy. XD

Yeah. Sorry for my long comment before, just wanted to get everything out. Anyway, characters who have those personal struggles are compelling as they are relatable as I said previously. I get what you mean though, reaction characters that are deep and have development is a hard mix to master. Mlp does exceptionally well however, thanks to the writers and directors past works on other shows 😊

Well, you’re right. You don’t need a history with emotional damaged characters to make something great, there’s a lot of examples in the series and the movies that can proof that. But I’m personally fan of characters who have many mental disorders, speaking out of My Little Pony. Also, I said too in my comment below that some people fail in the creation of characters with complicated lifes, and maybe I was wrong; There’s A LOT of characters with tragical lifes, but they’re not really deep. Is harder to make good characters with that formula.
 
Anyway. I get it, no pain is necessary to make great characters.

I kinda agree and disagree. You can have compelling characters without tragic backstories or physical ailments that grow better and stronger overtime as the narrative progresses. Each of the Mane Six has a severe mental disorder for example: Dash has major self esteem issues, Fluttershy has crippling anxiety, Twilight is neurotic and manic, Rarity is vain and melodramatic, Pinkie is literally insane which she flips from being a sociopath to psychopath on a dime and Applejack has PTSD. But they were subtle at first. They weren’t in your face and overblown unless it was for driving a point through. However, they don’t let the issues define them.
 
Scoots disability was only touched on, not explicitly painted in the walls until the Equestria Games episodes rolled around. Sweetie not being good at magic was consistent until she found ways to improve and get comfortable with her limited skill set. And Bloom is basically a Jack-of-all-trades being a mechanic, farmer, painter, scientist/brewer of potions and many more. She didn’t have a disability, but rather a lack of fo us and purpose.
 
Point is, you can write great stories for characters who have no signs of being emotionally damaged in any way. Making them have issues doesn’t mean they are deeper, just more relatable for those struggling with the same issues. If that makes sense.
