Yeah, but it still seems like bullshit to me. If it was another member, I’d understand, but Twilight, seems the most experience with dark magic to at least partially resist or at least eventually break hold of mind control by this point in her development. Now it just seems like a copout because the writers don’t wanna display how powerful she gotten or they don’t wanna draw any more Tirek-esque fight sequences
 
While I think “siege” can still be canon through having different Sombra’s running around, both in the show and the comics Twilight shown resistance toward this kind of magic from multiple characters. Inly cosmic beings like Discord and Cosmos are able to brainwash her.
 
Overall, I’m just sad it had to be the Transformers Crossover, a MAJOR event, where the biggest gets she gets shafted because ‘plot’ and which means she doesn’t even get interact with Optimus and probably won’t get to do anything.

Twilight only beat Sombra’s mind control with the Elements power, which only works when all the Elements are triggered together, hence Sombra using it on all of them triggered their protection. Sombra explains he’s only mind controlling half of them to prevent the Elements protection from triggering.
 
I’ve seen worse attempts to explain power inconsistencies in the series.
 
And “Siege”, including Twi overcoming it there, is defiantly non-canon to this given Sombra’s character here.

Sombra hear seems consistent with his S9 portrayal, so they aren’t continuing to retcon him, just “Siege”. Or are you talking about how S9 contradicts his prior show characterization (if so the comic is just following the show’s path as opposed to adding to the mess)?

Well, duh. They both keep getting retconned back stories, are known for saying one word over and over again (Kakarot! Vs. Crystals!) and pretty much blow the through the whole cast until they both die like a bitch.
 
Still, they shouldn’t just nerf Twilight and make her a brainless zombie for 80% of the story, especially in a CROSSOVER with the friggin Transformers.

I swear, Sombra is going to end up the Mordru of MLP:FiM. Five thousand years from now, when everypony has a personal Princess Celestia Home Fusion Reactor, their very own Spike-bot for a personal servant, and the dragons have moved offworld to colonize one of those planets where the sky rains diamonds, Old Smoky will still be coming back to make trouble.

Sombra is basically the Broly of MLP. The only thing that matters is that his power level is “stronger than yours.”

My brother Unicron needs Sombra back to life, he using the spark to revive him. So Unicron asked Sombra when we worked together and mind-controlled those Two beings: Magic and Machines.  

Wait so lemme get this straight: Twilight manages to beat Sombra’s mind control, who in turn finally gets yeeted by the TRUE Elements the Mane 6 had been carrying inside them all this time.
 
And now the writers just decide “Nope, it didn’t work” and suddenly Twilight CAN’T resist something she previously overcame TWICE?! (Counting “Siege of the Crystal Empire”)
 
Canon or not, this comic better justify itself in this end because I’m getting tired of the “Reed Richards is Useless” trope surrounding the mane cast

I don’t care whether or not this is canon, I’m just so glad to have the king back in official MLP media…and that instead of just “resurrecting” him again, they made him survive obliteration! I knew he was immortal! :3

A head canon of mines refers to King Sombra as being a reincarnation of an emperor from a Pre-Equestria era that is forgotten by many ponies, except a few(And Grogar): Majestic the Prideful: An authoritarian who wants to rule over everything, be it pony or creature.
