So the blue pony seen in that 2D picture released a few days ago is Sunny’s dad! I wonder if that Earth Pony mare that was next to him in that picture is Sunny’s mom.

So, like Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Black Panther, the movie will begin with the main character being told the backstory as a bedtime story.
