The premise of G5 is centuries/thousands of years later. Not knowing the entire G4 series isn’t an issue, but bullet point knowledge of the shows event’s would be needed if they even attempt to dig into the past.
This comic not withstanding, leaving the three petrified for long enough them showing up in G5 is itself not a good look.
What caused the collapse may have happened later but the issue itself is the same-ignoring a problem knowing full well it’s not actually solved until it’s someone else’s to deal with
And honestly I would not be surprised if at some point enough people just got fed up with Equestria risking nations and/or the world that they started separating.
Friend or not there is point of “Are you serious, you expect an apology to be enough?” That to a large degree Celestia and Luna already started pushing towards if not passed in treating Twilights ascension and Luna’s defeat as Nightmare Moon as lessons to be learned.
The show itself basically hand waves it with “Everything turned out fine!” because no one we are shown or expected to care about suffers.
@GrimChariot
It really did not feel like I needed to watch g4 first.
Also twilight was never blamed What did they make it look like the bad stuff happened in her time.
Edit: you probably mean them Being unpetrified Technically if they do appear in G5 It might not necessarily tie into this comic as the show never did
@northern haste
The movie itself heavily implies it is though-while being required may be much, a brief historical point may be a good idea and a general understanding of G4 is expected to a degree.
That said I’d almost prefer they didn’t come back, if only because no ones going to acknowledge exactly how wrong the fact it took that long for anyone to even acknowledge them is.
Or the fact Twilight followed in Celestia’s footsteps and ignored a problem until it could be foisted off to someone else.
@CronoM
Did you even actually read my comment They do need to re-introduce them It is a soft reboot watching they should not be a requirement.
The trailers never made it look like a sequel
@Lord You Know Who
More than nothing about their lore and actually it’s better not know G4 because there are details that are actually confusing like the whole 3 gems and how those ones aren’t elements of harmony. Also, the references to G4 are something Hasbro wouldn’t have forced because poor G5 don’t need G4 to shine.
It’s better be an AU than the future to have their new lore and using the multiverse to their stories.
@northern haste
Chrysalis was introduced super early in the G4 series, a series who’s popularity familiarity is an landslide G5 would have work x1000 over to compete with. Its no secret it stands on G4’s shoulders.
(I crossed out popularity because, now that the show is over, I can’t think of many shows so popular that shot itself in the foot so many times.)
Tirek is now the mark of any mlp show with a threat level, including G4 AND G1.
The only one they would need to FULLY re-introduce is Cozy and, let’s face it, not as many people are eager for her to return. No one even knew what the writers were going with for her besides ripping off the Cats Don’t Dance villain.
“I’m an evil child!”
“…..Tartarus.”
“Wha-(~ DOOR SLAM ~)”
@Background Pony #263C
G5 is supposed to be a soft reboot meaning if they did want to do anything with them they would need to fully re introduce them So watching G4 is not a requirement
@Smart Heart
I wonder if any G5 material will touch on this. If not, someone can contact the G5 staff when it ends years from now to ask what they imagine happened to the trio when magic disappeared (hopefully the statue broke and they were left to live out their lives either in a standard holding cell or as drifters stealing to get by until they met their natural ends).
@Smart Heart
I’d rather see the Trio reformed or at least a genuine effort made but the exact punishment is exactly what Celestia and Luna do.
The fact even Twilight lets Cozy get sent to Tartarus in the first place is a problem for a whole slew of reasons, but it’s in line with the way Celestia treats things she can’t use and/or control.
Discord’s entire reason for getting a chance was to weaponize him after all, and I think people really want to ascribe kindness and generally being a decent person to Celestia and Luna when they’ve routinely put others at risk for selfish or incredibly shortsighted reasons.
@Smart Heart
It was what they were and had been doing, So I don’t see how.
Celestia and Luna’s answer to 99% of their problems was either Harmony, petrify or shove the thing in question into a tiny box and leave it alone after x years.
This is just that again, by the exact same people who did it last time.
