You know, I don’t get why they call it Equestrian girls. Because that comes from the root equis-, which means horse, and these anthromorphsizisms display no horse features. In fact, they carry over all the non-horse traits added to the ponies (wings, horns, unnatural colors) to make them magical.
So this show really should be called Magical Girls.
