I think it’s because she’s also pink, and due to the squished muzzle all the ponies have on this art style, she looks like she has a snout.

Not at all: as you imply the origin of bean mouths on animation may go back to Sullivan and Felix the Cat, and speaking about comics, it may be even earlier (I think Happy Hooligan had them?) but, still, Pipp here looks like the result of Steven doing dirty things with Amethyst.
