You’re putting a lot of thinking on this drawing lol.
A true butterfly however looks different and doesn’t have two valves (it’s also not that long or thick built). Besides that, an IV gotta be placed before you can or should add any syringes or tubes to it.
As a nurse speaking, this is an accurate IV cath. Of course I don’t know, nor care too much about all the different types of IV catheters out there used for different purposes. Nonetheless, this is definitely not a normal butterfly. No.
1 ) That is a butterfly needle connection. They are normally used to only take blood draws from.

2 ) Nothing is connected to it, no syringe or i.v. bag.
So no medication is being given at all, nothing to put or keep him asleep.
